Microsoft continues campaign to shut down stupid software pirates

    Hi there

Of course Pirating is bad -- but "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" I believe is the quote in a certain well read book.

Have any of us ever "snuck into a movie house" in our younger days without paying (back 40 years ago or more movie theatres were easy to enter via "back door"), got free into a paid music gig, or paid kids rate on public transport or at a sports venue when over the age limit. - Those sorts of things are essentially "stealing" too.

Maybe the word Piracy is wrong as its theft pure and simple -- same with "Shoplifting" or "Joy riding" -- should all be called THEFT --pure and simple.

However - you will never stamp this type of thing out entirely - some people do it not to actually want the produc but simply because its a challenge. That is much harder to prevent than merely stopping people obtain illicit copies.

From what I've seen on the Net so far Ms hasn't a hope of stopping piracy of W10 on an epic scale --seems far more widespread than W7 and ms's activation schemes seem powerless to prevent it.

I'd suggest changing the business model --offer W10 free and go for SERVICES . Just think of the money they'd save on activation servers and the whole licensing infrastructure.

    Cheers
    jimbo

Not talking about stealing. We're talking about putting some money away when someone doesn't have any extra money to put away. Why didn't your family skip a few meals so you could put some money away to buy a TV?

Really? I think it is called priorities. Eating is a little more important than watching TV. I was born in a low income housing project. We didn't have a lot of things other people had. But, what we did have is good values, good character and a firm grasp of what is right and wrong. No one in my family would have ever stolen anything. We were taught to get a better job or get 2 jobs if you want something you couldn't afford, which my Father did. We got out of the projects, had a TV and a few other things, and didn't take anything that belonged to others along the way.

A computer & internet service use not to be a necessary item but that is changing in the U.S. you need to use for almost everything including government assistance, access to medical stuff, social security and even some bills you have to pay online. The one thing I don't like is the cost of the internet service even economy. I think it is to high.

Even though I am not doing this, bankruptcy also requires internet access for two classes you have to take.

There are people in the US, as well as in almost any country, who do not have and have never had a computer or a smart phone. They manage to survive OK without them. Do computers and smart phones make things easier and more convenient, absolutely. Can you survive without them? Of course. Too many people do it to say otherwise.

Remember way back before personal computers?? I sure can and I was able to get through college with out one. *Shock Not everyone needs or even wants one. Heck, my parents could never see the reason to have one and for them I can understand. They functioned just fine. Didn't need it to pay bill or get any banking done.

And I don't really see why you would need one to file bankruptcy.

And if you do, like I said before, go to the public library.

You need to read the post from Lee that he posted earlier. I know what it's like being poor. My wife knows what it's like not knowing where your next meal is coming from or where they were to sleep. It bothers me when someone thinks that life is always easy.

I think some of you misunderstood me. Yes, in the U.S. a computer was not needed in the past. Today a computer is. Using a library computer does not always work. Would you really want to pay a bill or apply for assistance or print out your medical info from a library. Access forums, read news or watch free web videos if allowed. Other stuff, no. Another thing, schools are also requiring kids to use some computer devices and parents are required to purchase them.

Not if your gross monthly income is about 100 bucks ... In that case you can't really save for anything, even if you don't eat at all.

I guess most people here are from the US. Even if you know what does it mean to be poor, poor in the US is not the same as in the third world. The difference is in opportunities. In the third world you basically need to win the lottery to get out of the $100/month life. There is just no other way. And yes, if you're trying to sell them something at a typical US price - than you're a jerk. Not that this justifies stealing.
