    Microsoft Defender Antivirus stops scanning after a threat is found


    Yesterday I uninstalled Avira antivirus and started using Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

    Today I run Full scan. After scanning about 3.03 million files in 45 minutes it found a threat in an old installation file that I have never run on my current computer, and it stopped scanning. I was not sure if it scanned all files so I started the full scan once again. After scanning about 4.24 million files in 67 minutes it again found a threat in another old installation file that I have never run on my current computer, and it again stopped scanning.

    There are two things that are strange for me:

    1. It seems that Microsoft Defender Antivirus stops scanning after it found a threat, and then I have to scan the already scanned files again. That is a big waste of time for me.
    2. I have checked in File Explorer that I have only about one million files on my SSD disk. So I don't understand where Microsoft Defender have found more than 4 million files.

    I have Windows 10 2004 update.

    Windows defender is continuously notifying "defender antivirus found threats"

    Hi,

    I am running Windows 10 Education version 1703 61-bit on an Intel Xeon(R) X5472 @3.00GHz processesor.

    This morning I started receiving these notifications from the windows defender app "defender antivirus found threats." three or four times every minute. The defender app already scanned and found the threat. it also performed an offline scan. but is continuing
    to notify multiple time a minute.

    but when clicking on the notification the windows defender security center does not show any threat. the system has slowed down considerably.

    What remedies should I apply.

    Windows Defender keeps taking action on nonexistent threats on nonexistent scans

    I have a laptop (Dell Inspiron 3541) running Windows 10 v1803. Recently, I have been getting notifications from Windows Defender saying threats were found and removed on scnas that didn't happen.

    When I go to Windows Defender, it doesn't show any threats found - nor does it even show a recent scan. For example, I got one of the above notifications today, and this is what Windows Defender showed.

    I tried running a scan, but the ETA was 4 hours, then 20, then 70, and still kept going up.

    Is there a way I can find out what the "threats" are? Or make it stop sending these unnecessary notifications?

    As already mentioned in the article I linked some hours ago: Running Custom scans still works fine...

    Microsoft will sooner or later fix it. For Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.
