Okay Please list your ISP when your are replying now, since it's possible that it could be Comcast for the US, UK I do not know.

I decided to check for updates and it says I'm up to date, but when I check via windows defender it still has the dotted lines go on.

Looks like another Microsoft mystery.

Back to the issue at hand. I'm not convinced we're cured of the problem. DNS servers are connecting and the Defender definition that came in automatically a few hours ago was 1.285.573.0. On the Defender definition page, which is Latest definition updates for Windows Defender Antivirus and other Microsoft antimalware - Windows Defender Security Intelligence -- there was a definition of 1.285.576.0 and then it was alternating with another definition that ended .587. Manually checking Windows Update and Windows Defender, neither one would download or install. Then, the definition page was down on Edge but working on Google Chrome. Now it seems to be back.
