Windows 10: Microsoft Defender is locked because admin or it has put restrictions on it?

I have installed a new version of windows on my laptop. Know i want to go to microsoft defender and i get a message that i cant acces it because it’s permited by my IT. But the thing is I don’t have any work or school account on my laptop. Also looked around and tried some commands inside my powershell but still no luck. People on the internet say that I have a 3rd party virus software on my device. That is also not the case because I don’t have downloaded any of itHopelfully you guys can help me because i searched all over the internet for solutions! Thanks for reading my question!

Locked Out of Admin Account

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

1. Are you using a Microsoft account or a local account?
   
2. Which version of Windows 10 you are using currently?
   
3. Is the other user account an admin account?
   

I suggest you to try using the on screen keyboard at the login page and check if you are able to login to the PC.

1. At the login screen click on the
   ease of access icon at the bottom right hand corner.
   
2. Click on the on screen keyboard to open it.
   
3. Type the password and try to login.
   

If you are using a Microsoft account, I suggest you to refer the article on

how to reset your Microsoft account password.



However, if you are using a local account, then I suggest you to refer the article on

reset your Windows 10 local account password.



Note: While performing these steps, there might be a risk of data loss. You may take a backup of the data before performing the steps.

Better free alternative to microsoft defender?

The OP can go one step further, if he is the go to guy for computer stuff, he could set up the machines up with user accounts and he retains the admin rights to each. He then could lock down each machine as he see's fit with freeware AV, internet/security options. One step in mitigating end users clicking on stuff and installing bloat/malware. No perfect options here except pulling the plug on the net to keep people safe. As for better free AV stuff there are free versions but each comes with its own set of ads that pop up at different times. I currently use WD and quite happy with it and no issues. GL
