Microsoft Defender offline after restart prompts for Bilocker recovery key. 1 I don’t believe I’m using Bitlocker so why is it prompting me? 2 Read somewhere that Bitlocker might appear when Windows has unusual access attempt on files, which make me question if that is what is happening, but again I don’t recall enabling Bitlocker? Any thought on why Defender is triggering Bitlocker and if related to unauthorized file access? Want to make sure not a security issue.

Microsoft Defender Offline Scan

Restored the Macrium Image and got my Recovery partitions back:






So as expected, I had a bunch of updates to do:





After the updates, I gave Microsoft Defender Offline a try and it worked!









And this just shows that I'm back at the latest version build of 20H2:





This one was my fault and I admit I was the culprit of my own troubles. It was just a coincidence that I used Partition Wizard around the same time the Cumulative Updates were going on from Oct 28th to November 11th and it gave me the suspicion to suspect them being responsible for the Offline scan problem.

I mean who the heck would of ever thought that a Recovery Partition would have anything to do with an Offline Scan in an Online world?

A special thanks to OldNavyGuy for his suggestion that a Windows Recovery Partition being deleted was the problem.

 

Microsoft Defender Offline Scan

The same thing happened to me...because I deleted the Recovery Partition on one of our systems.

That also broke Reset this PC in Settings > Update & Security > Recovery

I tricked myself into thinking that the space was up for grabs -





Uh...no -

(Note: MiniTool Partition Wizard calls Disk Management "Disk 0" - "Disk 1")

 

Bilocker recovery problem

I had my Lenovo fixed at their facility for charging problem and when I received it, it asked for bitlocker recovery key. I never set this up so am not sure how it was activated and at this point it does not matter. Apparently no one including Microsoft
knows how to address this. I logged in to my Microsoft account and found the Lenovo and my surface both listed and marked as "Bitlocker ON" however when I clicked on key recovery it says "you did not save any on this site". I went back to my surface and selected
"save to your cloud domain account" it acts like it saved the key but again it does not show on my Microsoft account. (surface is administered with the same Microsoft account)

Any suggestions? is there anyway to get around the locked drive? and why the computers are listed on my Microsoft account showing active bitlocker but the recovery key is not there and can not be stored there?
