Windows 10: Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 stopped working with latest Windows drivers

My Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 speakers have continued to work like a champ since the early 2000s. Just near the end of 2022, the speakers can no longer be started on latest Windows 10 on USB. It is a Lenovo X1 carbon, speakers were previously working with this system. Same thing happens on a Lenovo P1 with latest Windows 10.The speakers continue to work just fine connected to USB on older Windows 7 and Windows 10 Lenovo laptop systems, as well as an Apple MacBook Pro.What happened with the latest Windows 10 drivers, Microsoft???Driver Provider: MicrosoftDriver Date: 11/3/2022 <- M

Sound doesn't work - but driver won't reinstall

I understand your concern, I would suggest you to go to the device manager and check if the sound drivers are installed. If installed please update the drivers and check.

Step 1:

• 
  Press Windows key + X.
  
• 
  Click on Device Manager, expand “sound, video and game controllers”
  and check if any sound drivers are installed.
  
• 
  If yes, right click on the driver and hit update.
  

Or else go the manufacturer website and install the latest driver.

Step 2: Also run hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps.

• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the search box and hit enter.
  
• 
  Click on Troubleshooting tab.
  
• 
  Click on view all option on the upper left corner.
  
• 
  Select the Hardware and Device options from the list.

  System Services?

  Which system drivers are not working?
  
• 
  Did you check if the drivers are faulty from
  Device Manager?
  

I suggest you to check for faulty drivers from Device Manager by following the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows key + X keys on the keyboard and open
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Expand each and every driver and check for the yellow exclamation mark.
  
• 
  Right click on the driver with yellow exclamation mark and select
  Update option.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  
• 
  Close the window and check if the issue is resolved.
  

If the issue persists, I suggest you to download and install the latest drivers of the faulty driver from the manufacturer’s website and check if the issue is resolved.
