Is Windows 10 really a privacy nightmare?

or take it directly from Microsoft themselves, they (indirectly) admit it all in their privacy statement and service agreement

    Microsoft Privacy statement

Microsoft Privacy Statement – Microsoft privacy

be sure to read the 207,376 characters. of the insanely long and convoluted Microsoft privacy statement.. this forum only allows 60,000 characters per post, so i cant dissect the whole thing here, but it does have some
especially horrible and damming parts regarding the data being collected from you, and whats being done with it.

(if your using 10 you have already agreed to this weather you have read it or not)

    Microsoft Services Agreement

    Microsoft Services Agreement

Also,.. be sure to read all 130,857 characters of the services agreement as well, i suggest you have a lawyer present to interpret the legalease

(if your using windows 10 you agreed to all of this too)

there are also numerous discussions circling around on this site as well, here is a pretty active one where programmers and IT professionals are discussing the issue..

  3. Symbian user tracking and privacy

It depends on the application. There's no data tracking in the base OS, but some applications by Nokia or by others can collect data, either on a mandatory or optional basis.

For example, it goes without saying that Google Maps opts you into the same data sharing whether you're on Symbian or Android. Nokia states that aggregate data on the Ovi Store may be used for product development, but it's not used to target advertising.

As a rule, if an application goes online, I skim the privacy policy to see what it's sending beyond the data required for the app.

It's worth bearing in mind that without some kind of data collection and user identification, some applications just plain won't work.

I'm more concerned about it using my capped data which I pay for along with the new update direction they've chosen. I pay for my data usage, not MS. I should be able to decide what uses my data.

..........really? What a cliche these days!

  5. Don't you just love the terminology used by MS staff when interviewed?! *Rolleyes "walks by interviewer whistling dixie"

Didn't know you could even classify MS as being environmentally sound with the exception of their hardware division. Typically that would fall under user as far as what happens to wore out MS gear be it a mouse, keyboard, Surface or Surface Pro tablet, Windows Phone, etc.

Don't know when technology crossed over to being an "ecosystem" but sure do see that meme a lot these days. Must be the millennials or something.

  7. I think some of these people must see some terms as "HIP" while they don't actually fit into things being discussed too well do they? You always end up trying to decipher the slang in that sense.

As for the Express settings seen during the last portion of the 10 set up stages most will simply click right on ahead without paying much attention to that. One blog slamming MS back in August alledged that MS was using that as the opportunity to share your bandwidth to float updates around the web as well as the privacy issues and suggested going in and disabling things. There are actually two screens seen when clicking on the Custom options and nothing on the second should be any concern for anyone. The first saw those four turned off one being a sharing switch. Another was for collecting URLs and allowing advertisers blah blah blah also found in the Settings>Privacy section seeing the exact same four switches there.

Thought these MS people at least understood English and what words mean: Definition of ECOSYSTEM

Guess Windows 10 is a living organism now. I can only assume they are using the dumb downed kids definition.

  9. Haven't you ever heard the term "Windows Live"? Some at MS must get so carried away that they actually may start to believe that Windows is a living thing! *What" look at our baby!"*Roflmao2

  11. The expression used in the article lacked "Digital" which would clear things up for the reader! The author should have picked up on that.
