Windows 10: Microsoft DVD player app / problems with watching purchased DVDs

I have an HP notebook with Windows 10. And I noticed that I cannot watch DVD with my media player.So I purchased the Microsoft DVD player app to be able to watch DVD bought in shops on a proper disc. But when I put it in the DVD-drive of my computer, I can only hear the sound, but cannot see the movie. How come? When I put in a DVD we did from the last kid's birthday self recorded data-DVD, I can hear the sound and see the film we made. Can somebody help on this? Do I need to change the settings?

Ideally, the Windows DVD Player will play movies that are on optical discs. However, we will need the details requested below:

• Could you please provide more clarity on “will not play my DVD home movies”?
  
• What is the complete error message you receive?

Burned DVD's Work in SOME players

In that case, it is possible the problem is with the blu ray player not supporting DVD+R disks.

Suggest you check to make sure: it's possible you can overcome this problem by simply burning DVD-R instead of DVD+R. Check your blu ray compatibility list first.
