Windows 10: Microsoft Echo Cancelling Speakerphone mic not recognized

I have a Microsoft Echo Cancelling Speakerphone that I have been using for a while. It has always worked for audio output and input, then recently I noticed on my Teams meetings that it was not showing up on the Microphone dropdown. It also isn't showing up within the systems Sound settings as an Input device, but it is there for Output. When I look at the device settings it says the category is Audio device, Input device. It is not disabled as an input device either. In Device Manager it is listed under Audio inputs and outputs. When checking the driver, it said I had the best driver. I also

I have a Microsoft Echo Cancelling Speakerphone that I have been using for a while. It has always worked for audio output and input, then recently I noticed on my Teams meetings that it was not showing up on the Microphone dropdown. It also isn't showing up within the systems Sound settings as an Input device, but it is there for Output. When I look at the device settings it says the category is Audio device, Input device. I also rolled the driver back in case the updated driver was causing the issue, but that didn't fix the problem either.

I close my laptop to use the speakerphone, but now I can't do that since it will only use my laptop mic as the input. So, I have to leave it open, which defeats the purpose. I am using a Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 Enterprise version 22H2 and OS build 19045.4529. Full disclosure, I can't run the troubleshooter because I am not an admin.

 

Lumia 830 Speakerphone Echo

I just got my new Lumia 830...My former mobile was an I-Phone 4S. The I-Phone had a wonderful 'speakerphone' operation. I could keep the phone in a pocket, with the speaker on - during a conversation and never had any complaints...people said the voice quality
was great.

However, the Nokia Lumia 830 'speakerphone' operation is absolutely dreadful. The caller on the other end says that the sound is 'echoed' and blurry sounding. I also cannot hear the caller on my end - and when I crank up the volume - the echoing gets even
worse (for both me and my caller). It seems that this phone has a design problem - for speakerphone use.

I am aware that the phone has several mics built in - (the Dolby surround sound recording feature requires more than one mic)...Perhaps the software is enabling all of the mics, unnecessarily - for speakerphone use?

A software update is needed to enable ONLY the mic farthest from the 830's internal speaker - when the phone is on 'speakerphone'...

I'm very unhappy with this design flaw, especially after years of 'perfect' speakerphone use with my old I-Phone 4S...

One thing ANY good mobile phone must have is a decent ability to function as a speakerphone. I am not interested in using Bluetooth earpieces or wired earpieces. If speakerphone function was good on my 3 year old I-phone, it should be at LEAST as good with
the Lumia 830, if not better! Somebody dropped the ball on this one.

 

Lumia 830 Speakerphone Echo

In my opininon the speaker phone issue is Lumia 830 loudspeaker vs. mic HW design fault that does induce an echo to the other party.

Echo exist:

- only when using speakerphone

- less echo when phone loadspeaker volume is set to level 1-2

- terrible echo with level 5-10

- echo when the phone is on hard surface

No echo:

- no echo when no loadspeaker on (hands free, external speaker, Bluetooth all work fine)

- no echo when phone is not on a hard surface i.e. vertically and no hard surface on the back

- no echo when mic muted

It looks that the loudspeaker on the back is designed so that it reflects the sound back to the mic when the phone lays on a hard surface or is in a hard cover. No echo when phone is in free air.

I hope that the SW could be updated to reduce speaker echo to avoid the echo to the callers end when Lumia 830 phone is on a hard surface with loudspeaker on.
