Windows 10: Microsoft Edge always launching on startup

Seemingly out of nowhere, Edge decided it would be nice to launch itself on bootup and it's been quite annoying. It's already disabled in Task Manager & in Settings yet somehow is still starting up whenever I boot up my computer and the first thing I see after login is the start page for Edge pre-opened. I don't use Edge nor do I want it to be forced to use it as I've heard of stories online of Microsoft forcing people to use Edge as their default browser, so is there any way to fix this?

Edge automatically launches Bing page on startup

I tried this. When I do this, the only things on the list are Realtek HD Audio Universal Service, Logitech Download Assistant, McAffee Security Startup, Microsoft OneDrive, Realtek WOWL Utility, and Windows Security notification icon. Edge is not on the list. Is there anything else I can try? Thank you!

 

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

 

Some how "Microsoft Edge" got installed on pc

If you're running an edition of Windows 10 that allows you to set local group policies (such as Pro, Education or Enterprise) you can prevent Microsoft Edge from running at startup by configurating the following two policies:

• Allow Microsoft Edge to pre-launch at Windows startup, when the system is idle, and each time Microsoft Edge is closed

Enable the above policy and configure pre-launch to prevent pre-launching.

• Allow Microsoft Edge to start and load the Start and New Tab page at Windows startup and each time Microsoft Edge is closed

Enable the above policy and configure tab preloading to prevent tab preloading.


Then restart the PC for the changes to take effect, that should stop Microsoft Edge from running in the background automatically.
