Windows 10: Microsoft Edge closes spontaneously, unprompted.

ALWAYS when I need it to remain functional - as in: losing unsaved work every time it happens.

Before you start suggesting fixes that are fun to try the first time but become tedious and annoying after the umpteenth failure, here is what I've tried so far:

EVERYTHING in your posts even remotely related to this issue, including having one of your 'tier two' techs take control of my machine and scout around looking for the culprit.

To no avail, by the way.

After several hours of repair attempts and reboots, all the while receiving instructions via telephone thankfully, I have unlimited talk/text/data, he gave up and suggested I install the 'upgraded, new, improved' version of Edge, which turns out to be less user-friendly, less responsive, and more difficult to navigate. Plus, in order to install it, the 'tier two' tech had me uninstall/reinstall my OS in order to remove any legacy Edge components that may interfere with the new version.

And the kicker? The new Edge has the same issue.

So, I did a system recovery and went back to my old Edge, determined to live with the problem.

Now, before you start with 'it must be a hardware issue', I have had my machine diagnosed by multiple professional 'experts'. None have found any issues, all have complimented me on the quality and performance - top of the line name-brand components analyzed and matched for compatibility and integration.

So, NOT hardware-related.

NO conflicts reported to Windows.

Negative on all troubleshooting.

The newest wrinkle: 'Restart' has stopped working. I have to do a 'hard' reboot in order to turn it off and back on.

So: My question is two-fold:

1. Is there a 'fix' for the Edge 'spontaneous' shut-down?

2. Is there a 'fix' for the nonfunctioning 'Restart'?

PS: I notice you don't include Edge in the Windows topics below, yet there are multiple issues reported in 'Support'.

Microsoft Edge keeps on closing after a few seconds of opening it

Edge is Awesome for Browsing. Seems like this is a problem that many users are facing.

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

• Did you clean your cookies and history in Microsoft Edge?
• Did you get any error message while loading the web pages?

Method 1:

I suggest you clear the Clear browsing data option
of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

• Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Edge.
  
• Select Settings and click on
  Choose what to clear.
• Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files
  and click on Clear.

Method 2:

If you are using any Proxy connection, then try disabling the proxy connection and check.

Follow the steps to disable proxy:

• Click the Settings icon at the top right corner in internet explorer.
  
• Click the Tools button, and then click
  Internet Options.
• Click the Connections tab, and then click
  LAN settings.
• Uncheck the box next to "proxy server for your LAN".
  
• Click on OK to save the setting and close window.
