    Microsoft Edge keeps making itself the default PDF viewer instead of acrobat


    Hi


    I am using windows 10 2004.

    unfortunately MS edge keep setting itself as default PDF reader instead of acrobat DC latest version.

    I am almost changing the default PDF app every day from setting but it changes again.

    Help me please.

    Edge keeps replacing Adobe as default PDF viewer

    Microsoft Edge keeps reverting to the default PDF viewer and it's extremely frustrating. I believe it occurs whenever I unzip files using winzip. I know how to reset the default application but it's time consuming doing it once or twice every day and shouldn't
    be necessary.

    Why does it keep changing back to Microsoft Edge and how can I stop this?

    Can i remove Microsoft Edge completely?

    Why does Adobe not appear in the default programs list? How can I add this to the list as if it did appear the steps to change the default viewer would be quicker.

  3. Microsoft Edge Overrides Default Program for PDF

    Hi,I've checked the Event Viewer and found nothing related. Unfortunately I don't know how to use that tool either. I change the default program to open PDF files to Adobe Acrobat and the icon of the PDF file change into the Acrobat icon and the file is
    opened in Acrobat. The situations when Edge overrides as default program for PDF I've encountered are :

    1.simply by right click and refresh and the PDF file icon turns into Edge icon;

    2.sometimes it will keep Acrobat as the default program to open PDF files, but when reopen a PDF file, and it does launch using Acrobat, but the default program has been changed(the icon changes into Edge immediately). And another weird thing is, sometimes
    Acrobat will popup a window and saying if use it as the default program and by choosing yes, it's changed into Edge. : (.

    It's kind of annoying...I'd rather uninstall Edge if possible.

    Windows 10 Edge PDF Viewer

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    1. Click on start menu and select settings.

    2. Click on System.

    3. Click on Default apps.

    4. Towards the bottom of the page
    'Choose default application by fire type'.

    5. Scroll down to .pdf

    When you get to pdf, you will only see Adobe Acrobat Reader on the list.

    You'll need to left click at Adobe Acrobat Reader > then choose Microsoft Edge.

    That will change Edge as the default app to open pdf files.
