    Microsoft ending support & securtiy for Windows 8.1


    Just got the message that Microsoft will be ending Windows 8.1 in January 2023. When I click on the Learn More button, I'm led to believe that I will need to buy a whole new PC because my current one won't support their upgrade. I bought my computer with the apps I needed already installed. If I get a new PC, I'll have to buy those apps again, as well.This is going to be financially devastating for me.So, if I keep using my old PC under windows 8.1 will I be able to get by without the Microsoft security updates?I have McAfee through my internet provider. Will it be enough?

    Microsoft ends support for Windows XP Service Pack 1

    To help clear the deck for Windows Vista, Microsoft is ending support for Windows XP SP1. There is very little reason to have SP1, considering that several security issues were patched with SP2. While Microsoft guarantees support of an operating system for five years, they only support service packs for 12 months after the next service pack is released. SP1 was released in September 2002, and SP2 was released in September 2004.
