Microsoft forced Update crashed my C Drive, now I don't know what my Windows Serial is

Microsoft caused the main problem but REFUSE to help me get my Windows 10 serial number back!

I had to reinstall windows and use another windows activation code to do so.

What I want is for Microsoft to do the RIGHT THING and help me by providing the license key activation I had last used. Since obtaining the version of windows, I thought I had the serial in a safe place, but it was somehow hit when the update caused my C drive to need to be reinstalled. I in fact replaced it with a better internal SSD so it did NOT automatically obtain the activation code.

Microsoft is telling me I have to PAY to get my license key back despite it being their crappy forced update I didn't even want to execute taht6 caused the problem in the first place!

What do I do? It is completely unfair to have to BUY another license because of their actively destroying my systems. If I cannot get resolution I will file a complaint with both levels of consumer affairs. In fact, I think I will do that anyway, this is extortion!

    :)

  2. Windows 10 serial on OEM

    So I'll summarize steps made...

    1. Saved serial number (taken with Belarc Advisory) from preinstalled (half chinese language) Windows 8.1 (don't know exactly the version, suspect Windows 8.1 with bing) on tablet
    2. Formatted tablet
    3. Tried to make a clean Windows 10 (HOME, HOME N and also PRO, everytime with the same result) install with ISO taken with MediaCreationTool, during install (and also after completing installation) it says that the saved serial is not valid
    4. Tried to reinstall Windows 8.1 (ISO taken with MediaCreationTool again) HOME, it says that the serial is not valid

So i suspect that the saved serial, is from a WINDOWS 8.1 WITH BING OEM version and this kind of ISO is not accessible/downloadable anywhere (at least I can't find it, any suggestion?)

Still not tried SHOWKEY with that serial, I am in office now, and the serial is saved on a usb pen at home, will try this evening.

So I'm stucked but if everything is like I suspect, it's incredible. If I have a tablet/notebook/netbook with Windows 8 preinstalled, it seems that I can update to Windows 10 without problems, but if I want to make a clean Windows 10 install that serial is not valid...

    Windows 10 forced download

^This, then reboot and go to manually update windows. Find KB3035583 in the list of available updates, right-click and "Hide this update" so it doesn't get installed again next go around.

    Windows 10 forced download

To stop the download, uninstall the KB3035583 update (under "Control Panel > Windows Update > Installed Updates").

To get rid of the C:\$Windows.~BT folder:
    • Right-click on your C: drive.
    • Select "Properties".
    • Click on [ Disk Cleanup ]
    • After the initial scan: If you have a [ Clean up system files ] button, click it and wait for the second scan to finish.
    • Scroll down the list and look for "Temporary Windows installation files" (its size should be in the gigabytes range); check the box.
    • Click on [ OK ] to start the clean-up.

    in Windows 10 Ask Insider
My C drive is full and I don't know what is filling it: I have around 4gb free of my 110gb SSD and I have no idea what it is that is taking up that space. Is there a certain way that I can figure out the exact applications or files that are taking up so much space? submitted by /u/PBBloor [link] [comments]...
