  1. Microsoft Frontpage 2003 - Build10158

In previous builds this ancient & aged program worked with the exception of inserting hyperlinks but I can report that in this build (10158) all is working including hyperlinks.

One less reason for me not to upgrade to Windows 10.

    :)

I use Frontpage 2003 too (but just to maintain websites I created years ago and still host.) I have not tried it in Win10 though. Good to know it still works.

I have a couple of web sites that I maintain that were created with FP2003. But, they are in need of upgrading. The HTML code in FP2003 is not up to date.

I haven't installed it on my Win 10 installation but it is on my Win 8.1 and if it works in 8.1 I see no problems in Win 10.

  6. I know that Frontpage 2013 is 'old hat' & no longer supported, but, for what I want, it suits me fine - I tried Microsoft Expression Web4 but found that whilst it allowed hyperlinks in Windows 10, there were a number of issues that made it too cumbersome in use.

    Hi there

remember for a lot of these types of programs you could also run them in a VM - might be better if you are maintaining old websites as some of the newer features in web design etc won't be available via Frontpage 2003.

    Cheers

    Microsoft Frontpage 2003 - Build10158

There are a lot of reasons to migrate away from Frontpage other than whether you can still maintain pages created with it in the latest version of Windows.

Starting with the fact that official support for Frontpage Extensions on the server side ended in 2014 for 2003 - the last version. I don't even want to venture a guess how many ways sites built with that can (and maybe are) being exploited.

Maybe you will say they are small, out of the way sites for personal use that no one will ever notice or that you have never seen any issues, etc. in which case I will say you need to catch up to the current state of exploits and how and why they are used in 2015 *Smile

Seriously, ditch it. Whatever effort it takes to update away from it is less than the effort it will take to recover later from whatever gets you.

  9. Yep, I am one of those with an out of the way personal website that only a handful notice and I still use FrontPage 2003. I have installed MS expression, worked through some tutorials, but I could just not be bothered to put in more effort. Glad to hear that FrontPage 2003 sort of stills works with Windows 10. *Party

You probably think you have nothing worth stealing so who cares. I see that all the time. What you aren't thinking about is all the other ways bad actors can (and eventually will, if they aren't already) monetize your hacked site. Funneling illicit traffic through it, for example - pretty popular to set up proxy relays these days. Maybe it's just a waystation for shipping stolen information or credit cards. Maybe it's a node to distribute child porn. Maybe it's just something someone has in reserve to use for fun in a botnet someday. You don't know and they don't care. Your insecure website is just one of many random resources they snarf up.

When a vendor announces an end of life date for a product they stopped updating 12 years ago and that date comes and goes a year ago you should probably pay attention *Smile Not to mention that has got to be one dated-looking terrible website at this point. No offense, but Frontpage?

No personal offense to you - just please look in to it a little more. Don't take my word for it.

@ixian is right on the money. What you don't realize is that if your site is used for these puproses, YOU CAN GO TO JAIL. Police are not up on technology, and when they see that child porn came from your IP address, they will arrest you, and you will have to prove you are innocent, which can be a huge uphill battle, after which your community will have already labeled you a criminal.

This is not over reacting, or hyperbole. It happens. In my town, a teacher was put in jail for 5 years because malware had infected his PC and popped up porn on his screen at school, where children could see it. The authorities didn't care that it wasn't his fault.

Others who have had open wifi routers have had them used by hackers to steal credit cards, and then police tracked it back to an innocent person... a simple explanation does not suffice.

If you have a system open and exposed on the internet, you can and will be targeted by attackers... it's not what you have on your site, it's not how little you are... there are botnets that do nothing but scan every IP address for vulnerabilities. If they find one, they can make you a victim in many ways... either as a scapegoat, or even just cost you a lot of money in overage charges.

    Do not ignore this. Seriously.

  12. I suspect that if it's possible for someone to hack into large corporate computing systems, then it would be equally possible to do the same to any web based site.

Thanks for the info, but my Frontpage setup is quite safe & out of harms way & no I'm not being naive.

And I would also still be using FrontPage 2003 if it weren't for 2 things, non-support by my Domain Hosting service and that it doesn't live with the 64-bit versions of Office 2010 and 2013. So I now use Microsoft Expression Web, free.

  15. Wightwalker: Don't listen to any of these fearmongers. I have several huge non-profit sites built from FrontPage that are doing great (e.g., The Star Wars Expanded Universe Timeline) and which look amazing! So, don't pay these guys any mind! And Berton, Successfulhosting.com supports FrontPage server extensions. If the rest of you Yahoos want anyone to upgrade to a completely foreign web design program, then I suggest you take the hundreds of hours to REBUILD an entire site from scratch! I don't have that luxury of time. Do you?
