Windows 10: Microsoft Image Recovery not accepting account password.

Hi All,I am testing in a VM Image Recovery using different systems.Currently using the standard media creation tool etc and reset feature in WIN10 having a very bad time with it over all.Current issue, as I was unable to set up the VM without logging into an account amazing feature btw - when I go to recover with a system image I again have to deploy the account information. HOWEVER, the fantastic system has since simply denied my password, stating it as wrong - despite it working for me to log in on this forum and the account initially.I at first thought maybe the VM not being connected t

System Image Restore Is Not Recognizing My Password

Not for me, it wasn't. I don't have a Microsoft account. My machine that wouldn't accept any passwords in the Recovery Environment had only ever used local accounts.

 

Windows 10 doesn't accept my password during system recovery

I made a system image of my laptop. I want to restore my system to the state of that image. I followed the procedure described online on many places (i.e. advanced restart --> trouble shoot --> advanced options --> system image recovery/or any other option).

I then select my user name from the list of operating systems. Then I am asked to enter a password. My password is however not accepted.

This is the point where I am stuck. It won't accept my password and it is definitely correct (correct keyboard settings too/only English letter anyway).

I've read online that I'm not the only one who has run into this, but nowhere a real solution is offered.

Does anyone know how I can restore my system image (on external hard drive) another way? Or perhaps how I can make windows accept my password?

I am genuinely hopeless at this point.

As an alternative, would it be wise to simply drag and drop the copy of my old C-drive onto "This PC" thereby overwriting the current C-drive?

Edit: I read someone suggesting I activate the hidden admin account and from that account execute REAGENTC /BOOTTORE. Next restart and Windows should not ask for a password. Sadly it still does, so this does not work.

I understand that you have upgraded to Windows again after performing reset.

Have you tried to restart the system again to check whether the Windows 10 is downgraded to previous version?

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1:

As the Windows 10 creates the new user account automatically, I suggest you to run the Microsoft account troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Step 2:

As you have linked your Microsoft account in Windows 10, I suggest you to switch back to the local account if you wish.

How to switch to a local account from Microsoft account.

  Press “Windows + I” keys to open settings (When you get the error “Critical error-start menu and Cortana not working”).
  
• 
  Select Accounts.
  
• 
  On the right side, it will show your current account with an option "Switch to a local account”.
  
• 
  Select “switch to a local account” and follow the steps to switch your Microsoft account into a local account. Once this is done your Microsoft account is safe and not linked with that computer anymore.
  

Note:

• 
  You may not delete the recovery drive, as it will help you to recover the Windows in future if the Windows is not working properly.
  
• 
  If you are using Microsoft account to login to Windows 10, there is no option to disable the password and sign in to Windows 10 directly without entering password. If you are using Local account to login to Windows 10, you can
  disable the password and sign in to Windows 10 directly without entering password.
