Windows 10: Microsoft is finally bringing dark theme to File Picker in Windows 10

With Redstone 5 update, Microsoft is bringing the dark theme to File Explorer and other parts of the Windows 10 operating system. The latest Windows 10 Build 17711 comes with some improvements in this regard.

The File Picker in Windows 10 Build 17711 is getting a new update and now it comes with Dark Theme. File Picker basically lets you access, browse, and save files and folders on the system. It’s part of all versions of the Windows operating system and it allows the users to pick files and folders from the file system or from other apps.

“We call the base for this particular UI the “Common File Dialog” – by adding dark theme to it, it brings dark theme to things like the Open File dialog and Save File dialog,” Jen said in a tweet. “This is live from Insider Build 17711! We still have some work with file explorer & the picker in dark theme, but this is the first build where you can see the look of the picker is really starting to come together,” she added.

Eventually, all these refined parts in Windows 10 operating system should blend into the dark theme nicely. The dark theme would be ready for the Redstone 5 update due in the fall.

Microsoft will also accelerate the development work of the dark theme for Windows 10 and apps like File Explore.

Dark Theme incomplete

Hi,

This is an observation on Microsoft's incomplete implementation of the Dark Theme. I hope by raising this issue enough people will agree that Microsoft will correct the fault in Windows 10.

I have eyesight problems, specifically my eyes do not adjust to bright light. Thus, looking at a computer screen with all that white is painful. I switched on the dark theme, and I have my monitor's brightness, contrast and colour temp turned down. Together
these have helped considerably.

Unfortunately, there are still windows that do not implement the dark theme. Whilst I understand that Microsoft has no control over individual developer's implementation of a dark theme. It does have control over the windows it implements. Yet, to use a
specific example, the File Explorer does not implement the dark theme. Other windows that Microsoft has control over, do not implement it.

For me this makes using Windows very difficult and painful. I would be grateful if the Dark Theme could be extended, optionally or not, to all the windows in Windows 10.

Dark Theme is not enabling in File Explorer

Hi Nil, that option i currently not available in Windows 10

Microsoft are working on giving us more theming options, in the large update later this year we will get those options, and that includes a dark theme for Windows File Explorer . . .
