Windows 10: Microsoft isn’t planning to kill the classic Snipping Tool in Windows 10 anytime soon

Microsoft earlier this year introduced a new Screen Sketch app. Screen Sketch is a completely new app that has been made from scratch and it’s supposed to replace the previous screenshot experience called Snipping Tool. Microsoft is now showing a popup message (heads up) in the latest Insider build altering users that the classic Snipping Tool could be retired soon.

Microsoft in a blog post writes that the classic Snipping Tool isn’t going anywhere, at least for now. Microsoft is indeed alerting the Snipping Tool users of an impending consolidation, but the app won’t be killed with next Windows 10 update (Redstone 5) or anytime soon.

Screen Sketch is a Microsoft Store app, and it’s yet another way to clip certain areas of the screen. It’s getting better with Windows 10 Redstone 5 update and it would soon become the go-to-experience for all your snipping needs.

“We’re in the process of consolidating and modernizing our snipping experiences in Windows. When you upgrade to today’s build you’ll see a note about this in the Snipping Tool. Currently, we are not planning to remove the Snipping Tool in the next update to Windows 10 and the consolidation work underway will be a feedback and data-driven decision,” Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar said in release notes.

Screen Sketch app on Windows 10 can be activated by using the same old keyboard shortcut WIN + Shift + S. Once you’ve taken a screenshot of the screen with this app, a notification will show up in Action Center and you can click on to make further edits to the selection you made in the Screen Sketch app.

Windows 10 Snipping Tool on Windows 7

All it is is one extra step beyond what is native to windows 10. Yes, technically it would be easier to have the functionality of print built in to the Windows 7 version, but you just have to save it ,and right click on it ,and print.

As far as getting the windows 10 version into windows7. I know there was a way to get the old winpaint, so maybe there's a way to get the snipping tool into 10, I don't know.

im curious if i could compress, and upload the application to this post? 7zip doesnt seem to be allowed

less than helpful. I know Windows 7 has a snipping tool. I want to move the Snipping Tool in Windows 10, which has printing capability built in, to a Windows 7 machine. thanks tho.
