Windows 10: Microsoft Laptop Only Charging Up to 79%

Hello, I have realized that my Microsoft laptop has run into some issues regarding my battery.Over these past few days, my laptop has only been charging to 79%, and it just stops. I'm not sure what's going on, and I have tried going into my Settings > Power & Battery, but I haven't found a solution.It would be great if someone could help me with this, Thanks!

Why is my laptop battery charge topping at 79%?

This pertains to a 2 1/2 year old HP laptop.

I run it plugged in most of the time, but once a week I'll start the day unplugging it, and leaving it unplugged until it gets down below 10%, which usually takes about 5-6 hours.

Late last week, I got a Windows notification I'd never seen before, which I now can't quote verbatim, but it suggested using "battery optimizer" - I think that's what it was called - to "optimize" my battery. Hey, why not?

Except that

1. The next time I ran the computer unplugged, the battery drained to my needing to plug it in, in about four hours. Much faster than usual.
2. Then today I noticed that my battery was only 79% charged, though plugged in.

Having been plugged in more than a day ago, it should be at, and holding at, 100%.

So how do I get the battery back to 100% charged? Is doing so advisable or not? What's a true "optimum" setting for the battery?

In asking the "optimum" question, I've never had a performance problem/issue with the computer; my main goal is that, when it is running on battery, it runs for as long as possible.

 

Laptop charges to 79% and stops charging

I've noticed that my battery has stopped charging at 79%. I generated a battery report for my laptop, but the report kept saying the maximum battery life is 79%. Later, I uninstalled the Microsft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI Complaint Control Method Battery to see if that will help. It did, but then the battery icon disappeared, and I could not find where to enable it. Luckily, it was automatically installed back into Device Manager. My charging light is white if it is a full battery, and red when it is 99% and lower. On startup, it shows white, but for the short seconds where I type in my PIN, it turns red, and after I unlock the laptop, it turns white again. My laptop is an ASUS VivoBook 15 X512JA

Please help me... I really want to fix this problem.
