Microsoft launches push-to-install apps and games feature for Windows 10 App Store

Microsoft is launching a new feature called “push-to-install” for Microsoft Store (formerly known as Windows Store) and it allows users to remotely install apps and games on other devices.

The new Microsoft Store feature was announced in a quest on the Feedback Hub. The quest explains how you can download and install apps and games remotry on other Windows 10 devices such as a PC or Xbox One but it works only when the devices are connected to the same Microsoft Store.

“Customers can purchase Windows apps and games from the Microsoft Store app today but can only install to the local device they are currently on. The Microsoft (or web site) allows a user to purchase and install an Xbox game and have it automatically pushed to their Xbox home console. Push to Install feature will provide a broader solution to allow users in the Windows Store App (or web site) to install any owned app or game to any of their applicable Windows devices. A user can now purchase a new game from their mobile phone, push it to both their Xbox console and home desktop PC, when he/she gets home both are fully installed and ready to launch,” the announcement reads.

At the time of writing this story, the push-to-install Microsoft Store feature is live on Microsoft Store for both Insiders and non-Insiders. You don’t need to update the Microsoft Store app to get the remote app installs feature, as it looks to be a server-side update that is rolling out gradually.

Microsoft is purging a lot of low quality apps from the Windows Store

"Microsoft is sending emails to some Windows Store developers informing them that their apps have been removed from the Store for violating its quality standards."

"Neowin reports that app developers have been receiving these emails over the past couple of days:

In its latest review of the Store, Microsoft is evaluating if the published apps are good enough to be listed in the Windows Store. This includes publicly available apps as well as private beta apps. Additionally, Microsoft is also asking developers to delete any promotional campaigns for their apps to prevent advertising charges. Similarly, app name reservations are also being nullified; which means that if your app is unpublished, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to republish it under the same name.

Officially, the policies for the Microsoft Store says that apps must have "distinct and informative metadata" and "provide a valuable and quality user experience". There are also some specific standards that must be in the apps, including having a name that is not similar to another app or device, along with offering a description that is accurate about its features and functions.

There have certainly been many Windows Store users who have complained over the years about the large number of apps published that are clones of other apps or ones that are simply poorly made. Hopefully, this new move by Microsoft will help to curb these issues, at least for now.

Apple Claims Steam Link App Violates App Store Guidelines

Look... the Steam app "violates" the App Store rules because Apple is coming out with something similar. You can't have a competitor operating in your own App Store.

Wat? Steam app is mostly Windows already. They don't need a Windows 10 app. Windows S is dead, you mean Windows 10 in S mode? S mode is for locked down environments like schools, demos, low spec computers, etc.

Don't know how we got to talking about Steam on Microsoft Store...
