No, it's just one more example of how people see conspiracies everywhere, sad to say. The device limit is a roaming limit for Windows store Apps, whether developed by Microsoft or not--most are not--and while Microsoft set an initial ceiling of "81 devices"--that is a *per app limit* that is decided upon by the developer of each application. It is still up to the developer as to how many roaming devices his app will support.

Sometimes I fear the people who write this stuff have a hard time understanding what they read. Each license of Windows 10, just like with every Windows version ever made, supports *one* device at a time. OEM licenses support only one device, period; retail Windows licenses support one device at a time.

Thanks for posting that, Shawn. *Smile

You have that correct, Walt. *Thumbs

Noticed this in the 10 Store already, but wasn't aware of the 81 limit in 8/8.1. Thanks for the info, Brad, but what a silly view of the subject. Installed on 10 devices is more than generous. I'd say an average family of four would find it difficult to use 10 devices. That would be two per and two extra. Even at that most likely would not have the same account. Also, it's not like these Store apps cost hundreds of dollars either.

Certainly sounds fine to me, too.

They are talking about installing the same store app on X number of devices under the same account, for example:

I can install a game app let's say "Tetris" under my Microsoft account on only up to 10 devices under the same account 4 desktops - 2 laptops - 4 phones. If I own more devices and wish to have the same app, I would then need to use a different account. But seriously, who has privately so many devices, and want's the same store apps across the board?

That's my understanding of what the author wanted to tell us. If it's what Microsoft wants, that maybe another story though.

I don't see why it would be difficult for a family of four to have more than 10 devices. In my house we have 5 devices and it just the wife and me.

Yeah but a family won't be under the same MS account: Moms got an account, Dads got an account, Junior has his own account, and don't forget little Susie, she probably has her own account too.

That's the same way I read it. A family with more than ten devices would need more than one MSA if they wanted to install the same app on more than ten devices.

I know that a family can have more than one account. I wouldn't be surprised to find out a large percentage of families have only one account or should I say had only one account.

  10. I think I am reading this different to others, this to me is sounding like the restrictions placed on downloading media, Movies/TV Shows, you can download 5 times for these then that's it, you want a local copy after 5 download then buy again

you can install the app 10 times, not just have it on 10 devices at the same time
so if you do a few clean installs of the OS or re install the store apps, once this number gets to 10, expect to purchase the app again

might just be wording of the article, but that's how I read this

    Hi there

Many ways to overcome that problem -- however what I think you need to know or ask --if you have TWO computers with the same Ms account does the 10 apply to EACH machine or is it applied to the Ms account.

As I probably won't get ANY apps from the store it won't really bother me anyway.

Where it could get messy is if you mess around with VM's.

    Cheers

The way I read it is 1 app = 10 devices and not 1 device = 10 apps. If you want to run the app on 11+ devices you will have to have another MSA for every 10 devices.

agree about it not being 1 device = 10 apps, that would be a strange move

on the 1 app = 10 devices, what I am confused over, is it 10 devices or 10 installs?

I hope it's 10 devices. I checked a few of the free apps and they were limited to 10 installs also.

    Hi there

If it's 10 devices then simply create a VM - install the app again and then restore the VM image back to your physical machine --known as a V2P Virtual to Physical conversion. Software such as Acronis which has universal restore features means you can restore to dis-similar hardware so restoring a VM will work --I did it the other day to clone an activated 10240 build from a Laptop on to a totally different computer (desktop).

To create a VM of your physical machine (the easy part) simply use VMware's FREE converter to create the Guest OS image.

Download VMware vCenter Converter Standalone for P2V Conversion

    Cheers
