Windows 10: Microsoft My Phone App - Refresh does nothing

I have a SurfaceBook with Windows 10, all updates installed and a Samsung S7 Edge with all updates installed (Android 8.0 Oreo).


I've installed both the Your Phone app on my PC and Your Phone Companion on my phone. I went through the process of giving it permissions, signing in with my Microsoft account, etc. They see each other as the App on my PC shows it as connected, and my phone shows the notification 'Connected To Your PC.' So they see each other just fine.


The problem happens when I click on Photos or Messages on the left. When I click on Refresh, it just sits there on 'Refreshing.' Nothing more at all.


I can click on Messages, New Message and type in my phone number at the top and send a message and my phone receives it. However, on the right, it continues to show 'Sending...' under the message, even though it successfully sent. In the To: blank, there is no way to access contacts or anything. I just type in my number. And of course when I exit the App and reopen it, the message I just sent isn't displayed there.


This has happened for months and I hope each new version of the software would fix it, but it has not. I've recently reset my phone just a few days ago and I don't install a bunch of junk on my PC.


Does the number of old messages on the phone matter? I likely have a few thousand. Other than that, the only thing I can remotely think may be causing the issue is my default texting app on my phone. I disabled both of the built-in messaging apps and I use the Messages App from Google since I can access it via my browser on my PC. (Yeah I know, I could use continue to using that but it just bugs me that Microsoft My Phone won't work for me).


Any ideas?

Your list confirms my phone is eligible, Lumia 521. The windows Insider App fails after ~ 15 seconds, restores data and gives me error 80073cf9. I trouble shot this and went thru all the steps mentioned on several websites including MS without any luck. Short of a hard reset, this is where I am now. Suggestions appreciated.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. I'll certainly help you with this.

I would like to let you know that when you perform a system refresh(reset), the apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list
of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

I suggest you to visit your manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for Windows 10.

To fix the issues with internet connection, I suggest you to run the Internet connection troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

• Press Windows key and type troubleshooting in the search bar.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click on Internet Connections.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
