microsoft network realtime inspection service puts cpu to 100%

Since today (I have installed Plex Media Server) I got my PC to peek at 100% cpu because of microsoft network realtime inspection service.
In Security Essentials (W7) there was the option in Defender to uncheck "Enable Network Inspection System".

I can not find this option in Win10. The only option I have is to disable the Realtime protection entirely.

Does anyone know how to turn of network inspection system or any other solution to this issue.

    Regards,

I run Windows 10 Enterprise Insider Preview Build 10074.

    :)

  2. Microsoft Network Realtime Inspection Service

    Hi Wando,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and sorry for the delay response.

Let me help you to fix the issue.

To understand the issue please provide us more information.

    • What is the make and model of the computer?

    • Which anti-virus program are you using?
I appreciate the steps you have performed. Let’s try simple steps and check. Follow the below steps.

    Step 1.

I would suggest you to perform Clean boot and check if the issue still persist.
Clean boot process will help you determine which third party program/app that is causing this issue. It could be some other application or programs, which runs on the computer at the background, leading to this issue. Please visit the below
link on how to perform Clean boot.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Disclaimer: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

If the issue still persist, try the below step.

    Step 2.

I recommend you to perform a system restore and check. This option takes your PC back to an earlier point in time, called a system restore point. Restore points are generated when you install a new app, driver, or Windows update, and when you create
a restore point manually. Follow the below link to perform system restore.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance with Windows, let us know and will be glad to help.

Windows Build 16299.15 - System Process Consuming High CPU - PCs Sluggish or unresponsive

Nope - IRST is not (and never has been) installed... Any other possible culprits?

BTW, I notice that the second highest CPU-consuming process was the Microsoft Network Realtime Inspection Service at 10% - which is interesting because at the moment, there's no network traffic being reported in Task Manager....

  4. microsoft network realtime inspection service puts cpu to 100%

I also noticed this behavior after installing Plex (running Windows 10 Pro). Turning off "Cloud-based Protection" under Windows Defender Settings seemed to greatly reduce the high CPU cost.

Rather than disable cloud protection entirely I just excluded the Plex folder, Plex executables (including PlexScriptHost.exe), and my media folder from scanning by defender. You can find the settings near the on/off switches for defender.

The media folder might actually be a bit much but regardless that cut down the CPU cost tremendously. At the same time I'm not sacrificing much system security.
