Microsoft Now Requires OneDrive For Editing Projects In Clipchamp On Windows 11

Microsoft has updated Clipchamp on Windows 11, now requiring users to sign in with a Microsoft account and save projects to OneDrive for creating and editing videos, according to the company.

The change affects both new and existing projects and applies to the built-in video editor included with the operating system.

OneDrive Now Required For Editing Clipchamp Projects

Microsoft has confirmed that projects created in Clipchamp need to be stored in OneDrive to remain editable. Users can still keep media files, such as videos and images, saved locally on their device, but the project files themselves must be saved to the cloud.

If users choose to store projects locally, those projects won't be accessible within Clipchamp for editing. The app shows a message indicating that locally stored projects won’t appear in the Clipchamp app and must be saved to OneDrive to stay editable.

How The New Rule Affects Existing Clipchamp Projects

The requirement isn't limited to new projects. Users who want to edit existing Clipchamp projects must also move them to OneDrive.

This effectively makes OneDrive an essential part of the editing process, even for those who previously worked offline. Microsoft states that users are not required to upload all media assets to OneDrive. However, if OneDrive backup is enabled, those files could be synced automatically.

Why Local-Only Editing No Longer Works In Clipchamp

The update eliminates the option to keep a fully local editing workflow within Clipchamp. Although users can still store project files locally, doing so prevents them from opening or editing those files in the app.

This means even working on a single device relies on cloud storage. The current setup doesn’t offer a hybrid solution that allows both project files and media to remain offline while still being editable.

What Windows 11 Users Should Do About The New Clipchamp Requirement

Users who want to keep using Clipchamp need to sign in with a Microsoft account and save projects to OneDrive.

To continue editing projects, open Clipchamp, sign in with a Microsoft account, and set up OneDrive if prompted. Then, save or move projects to OneDrive. For those who prefer offline editing, third-party video editors will be necessary, as Clipchamp no longer supports local-only project editing.

Where And When The New Clipchamp OneDrive Requirement Rolls Out

The OneDrive with Clipchamp requirement is already being rolled out to Windows 11 devices. Microsoft has not provided an option to disable this behavior or given a timeline for any potential changes.

  2. Can a Clipchamp project be edited by multipe users (simultaneously)?

Can a Clipchamp project be edited by multipe users (simultaneously)?

    Hi Nikola_235,

    I'm Amr, an independent advisor.

Clipchamp does not support real-time collaborative editing.

This means that multiple users cannot work on the same project simultaneously. However, you can share the project for others to edit, but they would have to do so one at a time.

Please note that there is a feature called "Clipchamp Teams Beta" that allowed certain subscribers to create closed environments known as "Teams." Team Members within these Teams could share videos with each other, and Team Administrators had control over adding or removing other Editors or Administrators.

However, the information does not indicate simultaneous editing by multiple users.

I hope this is helpful. If you require any additional assistance, don't hesitate to respond to this.

    Best Regard

    Amr

Cannot see my project on timeline in Clipchamp

    Hello,

I'm having issues with losding my project in Clipchamp.

I've had contact with someone via Microsoft chat earlier today about this topic and he send me to Microsoft Tech Support.

My project won't load entirely, inly the imported files are shown in my project. Besides that, the issue is that I'm afraid that all my made progression is now lost and I have to start all over again. All of a sudden was this problem. No further accidents were happenening earlier with Clipchamp

Is there any way i can recover the project and getting my progressed files back or know were Clipchamp has stored them?

    • Its a 2 hour movie I'm making
    • It happens suddenly while I'm making the project
    • I had tried for at least hours of troubleshooting and nothing seems to work for me
    • I have had contact earlier with a person from Microsoft but he couldn't help me further.
