Lol! Well, it's early on the west coast yet. I got an update on my Lumia 8.1 last night. That was exciting! *Biggrin

I hope it comes today. None of my "apps" work - they just flash on the screen and close. I am so ready for a clean install.

 

Same here, Simrick, same here. My Skype for Business is acting just about as crazy as a looney toon, so I need a new install of something!

 

No new build today. No new Windows 10 PC build today, but when will the new Mobile preview drop?

 

So what's the difference between Mobile and regular, Hippsie? My laptops are mobile, but I'm not sure that's what I want on them?

 

Posted the link primarily to convey the news of no new PC build today.

The way I understand for them to create a "universal" OS across all devices is liken to a set of fraternal twins with one being a "little person". While creating 8 the first thing they did was to slim down the kernel so as to fit and run on "little devices" such as phones and pads. Same kernel, but different hardware and system programs (aka system folder). Basically the same Modern Store apps at the least.

They are building them along side one another. Sometimes they release a higher number mobile build before the PC build.

Will the mobile version work on a lappy or even a tower PC? Not sure at this point. It may be possible. There are cellular cards for pads I know. Not sure about laptops or towers.

Also, I think the future is cellular, not hardwired. The wired infrastructure is too costly to build and maintain. I think cellular will win out totally eventually.

 

Wired may be more expensive but still has the advantage of more bandwidth while wireless can be saturated easier. Cables you can ad ad infinitum but radio frequencies are preciously limited. Each has good and bad side and mix of them is only way for now.

 

True, for now. Comcast is the biggest wired carrier in the U.S. followed by AT&T. Verizon is the biggest cellular carrier in the States followed by AT&T. AT&T owns most of the main optic cable infrastructure throughout the country of which most data, including calls use. AT&T invests a lot of money to speed up cellular. Each generation quicker. I'll bet AT&T wins in the end.
