Windows 10: Microsoft office clearing unsaved documents on sleep

The issue I am having is that if I leave my computer running for whatever reason with work open if I come back to it and wake it up from having gone to sleep the documents I had open are still open but as blank documents. There is, as far as i have found, no possibility of recovery of the work which I left open. The first time this happened I assumed user error, that i had accidentally closed documents my self, however I have now been caught out a few times and I'm certain there is some software malfunction at play.


The computer is not set to hibernate or shut down automatically, only to sleep after a given time. I am using a HP Pavilion which is under a month old. I have tried all standard document recovery options and there is no recoverable file versions i have found other than the last time i saved the documents.


Although, yes I should save my documents before leaving my computer it would be nice if my documents were where i left them if i do not close the computer down so i am wondering if there is any way of preventing my computer wiping my work if get distracted for too long

Normally, this is the folder location for unsaved documents:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles

How can I navigate to my Recover Unsaved Documents folder in Word 2007. I closed my document last night before saving as I see that there is a folder that I save too every 10 minutes but can't navigate to it. THERE clearly IS a method and is available
for Word 2010, but how can I navigate if I still have 2007. When I foolow the steps listed on Support/Microsoft - the folder it navigates to is the Start Up Folder?

HELP. I'm assuming it's a lost cause, but maybe there's a glimmer of hope somehow, somewhere?

You may be able to find the auto saved file by going to File>Info>Manage Versions>Recover Unsaved Documents

You can also try searching your hard drive for files with the asd extension and see if anything comes up.

I would suggest to repair office. To do this:

From Start select Settings to launch Windows Settings

From Windows Settings choose Apps. (It might take a few moments for the Apps list to load)

Find Microsoft Office on the list and select it.

Select Modify and in the menu that opens choose Online Repair

This will take a few minutes, this should repair any issues with office itself.
