  1. Microsoft Outlook blocks access to URL links

    Hi,

I wondered if anyone can assist me in resolving an issue that when an email is sent to me with a URL as a link to a webpage Outlook will not allow me to open that link.

I keep getting an error report stating:
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator"

Well as I don't have a separate 'system administrator' and have checked the settings in Outlook and not found anything, can anyone assist me to sort this out please?

    Thanks

    :)

Why does the URL show whenever I try to click on a link. Also, why do I have 2 Cortana, 2 people, 2 mail, 2 skype, and other software? I need HELP!!

Microsoft Security Update Blocks Access to Everything

This error is generated when a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package has become corrupt, more than likely caused by the security update . . . I think Firefox uses the 2008 version of that redistributable available from these links: 32bit version:
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center 64bit version: Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64) from Official Microsoft Download Center

    Hi Traveller11.

I don't have an immediate answer but wanted to clarify. When you say Outlook do you mean Outlook 20xx that is part of Office or Office 365 or do you mean Outlook.com?

If part of Office which version, if Outlook.com what browser?

  6. Hi Ken,

Sorry, I should have clarified at the beginning.
I am using Outlook 2010 that is part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010

I also took a 'Screen Shot' which is attached.
    Hope that's better?

Thanks also for your quick response.

  7. Thanks.

Found this. The easy fix does not apply to Win 10, interesting?

This article would suggest, just matching error message which could be related to other errors, that you are using IE as default browser.

    Is this correct?

  8. Microsoft Outlook blocks access to URL links

    Hi Berton,

While I had to copy and paste the URL into Google Chrome, I followed all the requirements and when I got to the part where you take the tick out of the box fur using 'Ctrl-Click' to open the URL I found it was 'Ticked'

However I have to say that even thought I took the 'Tick' out of the box I was not being asked to use 'Ctrl-Click to open the link in the browser.

Having then saved all the steps, I tried again and got the same error message as seen before.
I then closed down Outlook, then opened it up again just in case it needed to clear out any previous settings and tried again, only to get the same 'Error' message.

    So I'm still stuck!

    Cheers.

  9. Hi again,

Microsoft are correct as I downloaded and tried the 'Fix' and got another 'error message' advisomg me that it would not work on my system! How kind of Microsoft!

Meanwhile I am not using IE as a default browser as I still have reservations about its security capabilities.
So Chrome is my default while Firefox is my alternative.

Having said that I have not tried setting Firefox as the default and putting Chrome as the alternative...........
So watch this space and I will give that a go!

    Cheers

  10. Well switching to Firefox made not one bit of a difference!

So it's back to square 1.

While Interestingly now I find that this 'Outlook' is also blocking pictures which are included in an email and come from trusted sources like 'friends' *Eek

Oh how I would like to curl up with a nice cold beer, but I have to finish my course of antibiotics first! *Devil*Devil

    Cheers!

  11. For pictures click on File upper left, then options then Trust Center. then Trust Center Settings. Have a review, particularly Attachment Handling and Automatic Download.

  12. Hi Ken,

That worked as I found that Automatic Download was set with a 'Tick in the box for 'Don't download pictures.......'

For Attachment Handling there were 2 controls which were both un-ticked so were left like that.

I then sent a picture as an 'Insert' in an email message between my email addresses and the message opened up in the one it was sent with the picture visible.

Thanks for the pointer and helping sort that one out.
The other 'problem' looks like it is a harder nut to crack!
I will send the details in another Post after this...........

    Cheers

  13. Microsoft Outlook blocks access to URL links

As a small 'test' as I thought that the 'problem' of being blocked by Outlook from opening a URL/Link to the Web might be resolved by trying a System Restore.

So I then went to a Restore Point that was before this 'trouble' began and ran the Restore function.

After what seemed like a long time the laptop booted up and I signed in, and then got presented with the following message.........

The System Restore Picture hopefully will appear here?
    No it won't!!!
Running a Preview it's stuck it at the bottom.

I then disconnected from the Internet, rebooted the laptop and Shut Down both the Zone Alarm Antivirus and Firewall, and ran the System Restore function again.

When it finished and the laptop reset and I once again signed in...........

I got the same message as before in that it had once again failed!

The Restore 'error' namely (0x80070005) I also get coming up when I close/shut down, but I haven't got a clue what it refers to!

    Cheers

  14. While I found this link using a Google Search and having read it I then modified the registry to what Microsoft advised, saved it, closed down and re-booted.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...afe-attachment
The 'problem' had NOT been resolved.
My only course of action left was to go back to a Backup Image of the Laptop HDD and Restore that which I did having saved a bunch of up-todate files before I did, like Browser Bookmarks/Passwords and emails.
After the Restore the 'blocking' was resolved.
I did look at the Registry and it also looked different to what I had, but at last I have a result.

So next up is a NEW Backup of the Laptop HDD as all is running OK.
    Cheers!

  15. Great. You will have to manage the updates quite closely as they will all want to re-install.

Excellent that you have a backup, not many people do.

We also recommend, whenever we can, that people look into Macrium Reflect. Free and reliable.
