Windows 10: Microsoft Photos app - Copy/pasting PNGs removes transparency

On Windows 11 , copying and pasting a PNG with a transparent background from the Photos app replaces the transparency with black. This occurred when pasting into Word, Powerpoint and Slack so I believe it's an issue with the Photos app. Inserting the same image directly into a Word document does not have the same issue i.e. the transparency is preserved.This occurs for several of my colleagues using Windows 11, but does not occur for me on Windows 10. Is this a known bug or a settings issue?

When trying to view transparent PNG with black elements, the window remains all black - is there an option to change the color of Photos default background to white - or any other way of making PNGs viewable?

What an aggravation! Not only does the Photos app work WORSE than the old Photo Viewer, but you got some robot response. Customer service is dead.



I initially came here looking for a fix for the same problem with PNGs you mentioned, where transparent pixels appear as black.



This isn't a perfect fix, but you could try downloading this:

Restore Windows Photo Viewer



I’ve used it for a while now and it’s a very close replica of the old Photo Viewer.
