    I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    The photos app should not be taking up that amount of space, basically it is just a viewer that provides a different view of the Pictures folder on your hard drive.

    Where are you seeing that app is using half a gig of drive space, please provide a screenshot of that.

    Thank you for that screenshot, that is normal, that is the actual size of the photos app in a standard Windows installation, it is not using any more space than it should be.
