    Microsoft Photos Error We can't open this file For iPhone Photos with .HEIC file format


    Hi Microsoft Community,


    I am unable to open iPhone photos with .HEIC extension using Microsoft Photos. I have HEIF Image Extensions installed, however the error remains the same.


    My Windows version is as under:


    Edition Windows 10 Home

    Version 20H2

    Installed on ‎21/‎01/‎2021

    OS build 19042.746

    Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0




    Please refer to the snapshot below for the error.

    How to open .HEIC files

    I just got a bunch of photos from a friends' iPhone but I can't open them on my Windows 10. They are all encoded as .heic files:


    Microsoft Photos Error We can't open this file For iPhone Photos with .HEIC file format PIEMgOt.jpg



    If I open any of those files in the Photos app, it shows that it can't read them. If I then go into Settings and scroll down, it has this link:

    Which opens the Store app:


    Microsoft Photos Error We can't open this file For iPhone Photos with .HEIC file format EfxmMib.jpg



    The thing that irks me is that they want money for that.

    Does anyone know how I can open those pictures without paying Microsoft more money?

    Old Mac formatted photo files need to be opened on my PC.

    The files themselves are jpeg, tiff, or psd, but the external drive itself was formatted for Mac. When I set up the external drive it asked whether
    to format for Mac or PC. When I attach the External Drive to my PC, the icons for the files showed up on the screen but when I click to open the file
    is "not readable". When I took it to a shop, the guy saw the icons on the PC screen and assumed it was ok I guess.
