Windows 10: Microsoft Photos for Windows 11 - What types of file association does MS Photos open?

I am needing a list of file association for MS Photos in Windows 11 so I can correct them in the Setting Default Apps - File Association.

Associating .jpg files to anything other than MS Photos

I can't change the default file association for .jpg files. The normal routes don't work:

Settings/ Apps/ Default Apps/ Enter a Default Type. When you type in .jpg, nothing appears in the "Choose default" field. In fact, nothing appears for any photo or movie extension.

Settings/ Apps/ Default Apps/ Set defaults for applications. Other photo viewers such as Irfanview do not show up. Typing in the search box brings up an option to Choose defaults by file type. Photo files including .jpg do not show up in the file list.

Right-click on any .jpg file, choose Properties, there used to be a Change button you could click, but that is gone.

Right-click on any .jpg file, choose Open With..., there used to be a checkbox to Always Open This App, but it is gone.

Help! I can't stand MS Photos, it's the worst photo viewer ever.

 

Windows 10 - defaul photo program

As I understand that you are not able to see Photo Explosion in the list of default programs, I would suggest you to follow few steps to set Photo Explosion as your default program.

• 
  In the search bar type Default programs and press enter
  
• 
  Click on associate a file type or protocol with a program
  
• 
  Select the file type which you want to associate with the photo Explosion.
  
• 
  After selecting click on change programs
  
• 
  Check whether you are able to see Photo Explosion in the list.

Unable to open .svg files with Microsoft Photos


Unable to select Microsoft Photos app for .svg file association when using the Open With context menu

So I tried installing ownership context menu to actually access the Microsoft Photos app, which pointed to the directory, C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\

But there is no exe in that folder, and it seems when checking task manager and opening file location of the Microsoft Photos app when it's open, it points to a created folder inside the above folder. So it creates an individual folder each time the application is open.

The option isn't under Settings \ System \ Default Apps \ Choose default application by file type

Again, I run into the same problem without being able to select the application when trying to choose based on the .svg extension.

So there is no way of selecting the Microsoft Photos app to associate with .svg

So I'm kinda out of ideas here, assistance / thoughts appreciated
