Microsoft Plans to Let Windows 11 Users Pause Updates Indefinitely

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 will let users pause updates indefinitely, a level of control not available since Windows 8. The change is part of the broader Windows K2 update rollout announced this week. Pavan Davuluri, EVP of Windows and Devices at Microsoft, explained the new options:

"Users will be able to skip updates during device setup to reach the desktop faster, restart or shut down without installing updates, and pause updates for longer when needed."

The update also aims to reduce disruptions with fewer automatic restarts and notifications.

What Changes With Windows 11 Updates

Since Windows 10, updates have been largely mandatory. Users could delay them for a few weeks, but eventually, Windows would enforce the installation. That restriction is now being removed. Once the update rolls out, users will be able to postpone updates as they wish, shut down or restart without needing to install a pending update first, and skip update installation during initial setup.

Why Microsoft Is Letting Windows 11 Users Pause Updates

Microsoft aims to make updates more predictable, easier to manage, and less disruptive. This change is part of a larger effort to improve Windows 11’s reputation, along with performance enhancements and reduced system friction.

What Windows 11 Users Should Know Before Pausing Updates

Microsoft is working on ways to streamline update restarts by consolidating them to once a month and making updates more reliable and faster to install. While pausing updates indefinitely might give users more control, it also means security patches could be missed, leaving devices more vulnerable over time.

The company has not announced a specific release date for these update controls but says the changes will be introduced later in 2026 as part of the Windows K2 initiative.

    "Hi All,
We stronly advise Comodo users not to update to latest MS update KB4022716, which is available for Windows 10 users till they have new fixed version of Comodo internet security products installed.

    Affected Products:
    - Comodo Internet Security / Comodo Antivirus / Comodo Firewall (Affected versions: v6246 and below)
    - Comodo Cloud Antivirus (Affected versions: v533 and below)
    - Internet Security Essentials (Affected versions: v81 and below)
    - Comodo Secure Shopping (Affected versions: v97 and below)

    Possible Problems:
In case you have updated to MS update KB4022716 prior to updating to latest fixed version of Comodo products, following issues may appear:

    - Crashing browsers
    - May not be able to login to Windows

    Resolution:
If you are able to login, you can uninstall Comodo and re-install latest fixed Comodo version. Else you need to go to Windows Safe Mode and uninstall Comodo product or re-store system to state before Comodo product was installed.

In case you want to keep Comodo and pause Windows updates for some time, you may use following steps:
Step - 1: Click on Start icon on Windows
Step - 2: Next click on Settings menu item, it will open "Windows Settings" window
Step - 3: Select "Update & Security" section from there and it will show "Windows Update" section
Step - 4: Click on "Advanced Options" next, there is "Pause Updates" section allowing you to pause Windows updates for next several days

You can find same steps with images here .

    Reason:
There are unexpected changes in last MS update KB4022716, which are incompatible with Comodo products.

Microsoft Prepares Update for Windows Home Server

Microsoft's Windows Home Server officially launched earlier this month, is already preparing to be updated. Microsoft says that the new update is "part of the ongoing process of continually enhancing the customer experience with Windows Home Server." The update includes a few feature additions for Windows Home Server. Currently, users who login to their server when away from their home network - through an external URL like https://yourname.homeserver.com - are greeted with a security warning. The November 27 update will now provide users with a trusted SSL certificate for their Windows Home Severs. The SSL certification was provided with the help of Windows Live Domains and GoDaddy. Other new features include a "Delete All" button to remove home computer backups. Microsoft has also taken steps to make the Shared Folders and Server Storage aspects of Windows Home Server more robust and user friendly.
