Windows 10: Microsoft please don’t update to AMD Sata controller!!

It is a second time when my Windows 10 Home system freezes and become then corrupted all of the sudden because windows 10 decided to update standard MS Sata Controller to buggy one: AMD Sata controller.. even tho I remember that I select not to install updates for my drivers automatically but for some reason after a few month it switched to automatic. Microsoft please don’t bundle AMD Sata controller driver for 990FXA-GD80 chipset!! How this all happened? I just turned on my PC and my login screen start to freeze all of the sudden and after force restart CHKDSK process made my system literally unbootable.


P.S: Now I’m trying to restore my system for days already, I was able to revert AMD Sata controller from 2015 to MS Standard Sata controller from 2006 via safe mode and system is finally stopped freezing. But I was unable to fix DISM image still corrupted and can’t find a source even on USB bootable drive with Windows 10 Home on it I tried Windows 10 Upgrade from my USB bootable drive to preserve my files, programs, and hopefully desktop icons but unfortunately after several restarts and etc practically on the final stage I’m getting BSD with critical process died message and after restart the upgrade process decided to revert everything back. I think I will just make clean windows reinstall because I can’t take it anymore. Even my 15 years of experience doesn’t help me to fix this system.

SSD samsung evo and amd drivers

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

The issue could be because of the AMD drivers installed on the computer.

Since the Samsung SSD is working fine with the Microsoft AHCI driver, I suggest you to update the AMD driver and check if that helps. To update the AMD drivers follow the steps from the article

Update drivers in Windows 10.

If updating the drivers didn’t help, I suggest you to roll back the driver to previous build and check if that helps. To roll back the driver to previous build follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press and hold the Windows + X key on the keyboard.
   
2. Select Device manager.
   
3. In Device manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
   
4. Right click on AMD SATA Controller and select
   Properties.
   
5. Navigate to the Driver tab and click on Roll Back Driver.
   
6. Restart the computer.

Thanks, have heard this before...is their a step by step procedure to OC using the bios settings you suggest.
i don’t intend pushing this to its limit...but some increase would be great, any suggestions on a good air cooler ?

AMD Catalyst Control Center is related to graphic drivers, if you don’t need to can remove it but you might face some issues with graphic or display, for safety issue I suggest you t better contact the AMD support and check regarding this with them.
