Windows 10: Microsoft Project Standard 2007 Activation after clean W10 install Q

A few years ago I got a copy of MS Project Standard 2007 from my daughter's school which I installed and activated on my new office PC when I built it, using a one time only product key (Academic Promotion).
(FYI - upon careful reading of the license I saw that the software is for a current student or teacher - or a family member of a qualifying student, which was true at the time and is still true until May of this year)

Now I am considering upgrading this PC to Windows 10 in a clean install.

My understanding is that I will lose Project 2007. I will not be able to activate it again on my "new" PC and I will have to revert back to my previous Project program or buy a new/old copy of 2007 (and factor this additional cost into my decision making).
Am I correct?

Second question: since I already have the installation media, is there a way to just pay Microsoft for a single license - new product key without having to go through the whole dance of buying another DVD?
I'm not interested in newer versions, and especially not interested in paying $25/m for Project 365.

Why I wasn't activated ?

Maybe Microsoft has not created the perfect Windows 10 OS version yet.

I give Microsoft credit for realizing that some Windows 10 clean installs on previously activated pc were not automatically activating. Microsoft's November update to public Windows 10 created the ability for W10 users to enter their previous Windows OS
activated product key to activate W10 after clean install if necessary.

 

Get BSOD with the error "irql not less or equal"

What W10 version do you have? Is it





If it is the Nov. updated W10 version and is digitally activated, you should have no need for product key.

If you asked for product key during clean install just skip it or click next. After clean install is finished log into microsoft acct, verify it and then check activation in Settings-Update & Security.

There is no product key if you upgraded to W10 from activated W7 or W8.1. Your pc is digitally recorded as activated on Microsoft servers. With Nov. W10 update version no. 1511, OS 105.86.14 Microsoft has made it possible to use an activated product key
from your prior activated OS if you encounter activation issues.
