Microsoft pushing out the folder protection feature to its Windows 10 OneDrive app

Microsoft had earlier announced that it is working on a folder protection feature for its OneDrive app for Windows 10 PCs which will help the users to backup important documents, pictures and desktop folders to the OneDrive app.

The feature called as “Folder protection feature” is being rolled out to all Windows 10 PC users. The feature also helps when there are multiple Windows 10 PCs since all the documents in the folders will be synced automatically on all the PCs.

The Redmond Giant earlier rolled out this feature to the business users back in early June and after gaining success the feature is being made available to the regular users as well. The feature also keeps the files protected since the feature also supports ransomware detection & recovery.

Microsoft states: “This is a new feature we started rolling out broadly this week that is now available to OneDrive users with personal accounts.” “It makes it easier to move content into OneDrive, have access to all your important files on all your devices, and keep more files protected with features like ransomware detection & recovery.”

To enable the folder protection feature you would need to go to OneDrive settings on your Windows 10 PC and navigate to the Auto Save tab and click on the update folders button under protect your important folders.

Once enabled, the feature automatically adds your documents, pictures and desktop folders to your OneDrive. However there are also some limitations for certain type of files.

The feature does not support Outlook database files like .pst files and OneNote files like .one, onepkg etc. If you have outlook database files already saved in your OneDrive then this feature will not work with the above files.

Apart from not supporting some limited type of files, the feature works very well on most documents, photos etc and hence its a great feature to have on your Windows 10 OneDrive application.

If you are using the OneDrive app on your Windows 10 PCs, then the feature is already live. Do let us know your thoughts on the above features in the comments below.

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

Say goodbye to ransomware with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Yes, ransomware will be a thing of the past with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update thanks to something called "Controlled Folder Access" in Windows Defender.

Windows 10 will hide your important files from ransomware soon | The Verge

These are protections for your files against ransomware at the kernel and Windows Defender level. Rest easy, your files are safe.

    About damn time Microsoft!

    Windows 10 - OneDrive

[/quote] Click to expand... Sorry, but I think you're confused and keep referring to Onedrive. There is a big difference between the consumer version of Onedrive business O365 version. I do not have the consumer version of Onedrive installed... it is Onedrive for Business. Also, this script is for "Onedrive" .... not Onedrive for Business. Thanks anyway.

OneDrive (for Business) built-in Windows 10 differences?

No thanks for providing a non-rant version. I ought to recruit about 20 million people and walk down to Microsoft headquarters and do them in. Tired of Microsoft forcing their childish development skills on the masses.
