BUG: WIndows 10 phone won't stay shut off

Seriously..what is going on with this "OS"?

    It' is just endless problems.

I need it stay OFF to recharge faster at times.

How can I regress back to Windows Phone 8.1?

This is how bad Windows Phones is:

Satya Nadella isn't stopping the job cuts train at Microsoft any time soon. The company revealed Thursday that 2,850 people will lose their jobs by the middle of 2017, on top of the 1,850 cuts announced earlier this year.

According to a regulatory filing, those impacted will primarily be in its phone hardware business, which has already been hit hard by layoffs, and in global sales.

The cuts are more fallout from Microsoft's decision to downsize its smartphone business, which it acquired from Nokia in 2015. Putting that acquisition in motion was one of the last things that former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer did before announcing that
he would be leaving the company's top job. His successor hasn't taken the same shine to the phone hardware business that Microsoft bought.

Microsoft declined to comment about the job cuts beyond what was disclosed in the

    10-K filing
. Nadella has cut thousands of jobs since taking the top spot, many of them in the phone business.

It remains to be seen what this will mean for the company's business overall. While Microsoft's most recent quarterly financial report showed a year-over-year revenue decline, the company's cloud businesses continued to grow. The phone hardware business
has been a sore spot on Microsoft's financials, seeing massive revenue declines for the past several quarters.

  3. Make your computer work like a land line phone

ya but why hasn't Microsoft made a program that will do it are they afraid that it will cut into the sales of their windows phone product line or what? I think it would be a backup system in case there phone is not working or is busy doing something else
    for your users.

This is pretty common, when they acquire a new company, they lay off any overlap in employees.. sometimes it's from the new company, sometimes from the old...

    Hi there

Providing we can take away some of the obvious sorrow of people losing jobs -- from a purely business sense you have to ask what on earth or rather HOW on earth does it take 7,500 people to run a Phones manufacturing business --what exactly DO these people all do all day.

Technology requires different working methods to traditional ways -- a lot of technology can replace those jobs that are lost anyway -- creating software, servicing "Virtual branches" etc etc.

I see squeals of crocodile tears nearly every day in various Left wing newspapers about Banks closing branches (mind you if people really were that left wing why on earth would they choose to work in a bank anyway) --yet who really goes INTO a branch bank any more -- unless you are paying in wads of Cash (coins etc) more and more people are using MOBILES for Banking.

What Ms needs to do to get Windows phone off the ground is to find some way the Windows phone OS can run on popular models such as SAMSUNGS / HTC etc. The Nokia phones arte basically old fashioned junk -- equivalent in architectural terms to the old Stalinist Eastern Bloc "Brutalist" types of concrete monstrosities that passed for City planning.

    Cheers

    Hi there

as I posted previously --it's always bad for people losing jobs - new ones will be created --but exactly HOW and WHY did it need 7,800 people to run essentially a phone company making just a few handsets that machines could manufacture.

    Cheers

My dear native Finland will be hit hardest. About 2,300 of those 7,800 employees this concerns are from Microsoft Finland, Finnish media tells today, leaving only 1,200 employees for MS Finland.

Those who have to go are all old Nokia employees MS got when they bought the phone business.

    Hi Kari

I'm still confused as to why a company making Phones would actually NEED nearly 8,000 people !!!! - Sorry people are losing jobs but new jobs (often ones that NEVER existed a year or two earlier) are often created -- and a lot of people who get made redundant often start something totally new with surprisingly successful results - so it's not always a bad thing for people to move on.

    Cheers

They had too many models in the lineup for people to really relate to. I think this is a good way to trim off excess redundant jobs and eliminate model confusion with all the different ones they have around the world.

I've been saying this for a long time and it's good that they're finally getting rid of all this confusion.

You have to consider there are a lot of parts in a phone. You need design engineers, semiconductor engineers, people to design the look and feel of the device, plastics engineers, model makers, production line supervisors, and then all the people that actually put the parts together (assuming they're not just manufactured in China).

Then you have software engineers (remember, Nokia phones had their own OS devision), application developers as well... program managers, middle managers, Marketing people, sales people (not the same thing as marketing), account managers, accountants, purchasers/buyers for things you aren't building yourself, or for materials you need to build it yourself, etc...

The list goes on and on.. it's very easy to get 8000 people in a worldwide company that does business in virtually every country in the world. Think about how many Lawyers along they must need *Wink

What they need, is to put names to the models, instead of numbers. I like the idea behind naming the Ikon... All other brands of cellphones and tablets have particular model names, or at most version numbers... Galaxy S6 "Edge", LG G4, Moto X, etc...

    Lumia 630 tells me nothing...

Windows Phone is never going to happen. If Nokia had adopted Android it would still be the world's biggest phone manufacturer.
The rumours that Microsoft could dump Windows Phone and use Android with Ms Services makes sense. The lack of Google support has also hurt WP.

  14. I agree with you, it's too little too late for Microsoft. They wasted so much time and resources and then making W10 more WinRT crAPP friendly then desktop/laptop driven O/S for all the enthusiasts, gamers, and businesses that rely on Windows products that are pretty much dominant on the market, why change a good thing?

People get stubborn and stuck on their certain ways. Everyone is either a fan of Apple products for iphones and ipads and all that jazz and eventually dive into a macbook. But there are some that still keep a PC and use apple products for some reason. I have friends with iPhones that use Windows PC's. The same with Samsung, you either go for the android and the cheaper android tablet alternative and go crazy with all the apps and games there and google products and those users still use a PC. Then you have the whole xbox fiascal. Majority of people that got fed up with Xbox and Xbox360 and all the problems, red ring of death, opted for Sony's Playstation as the leading console. Majority of gamers barely even touched the Nintendo Wii and Wii U was a big failure. Once a certain product grabs someone they don't switch. Majority of console gamers are Playstation users. Not one of my peers owns an XBox One, but they have PS4 and they all bash the X360 and the countless problems it gave them.

So this Microsoft mentality to make this hybrid O/S thinking oh yea now people will buy a Windows Phone and a Surface Pro tablet and an XBox One and seam it altogether with our greatest O/S W10 is not going to happen. Only a small percentage of the population will go this way, and when they see that they screwed up royally maybe they will adjust their thinking in the future of the operating system in what they want to do.

Don't get me wrong I like W10 I think its going to be a good O/S when it gets released. I am not a fan of them dumbing it down and removing personalization options (that we need to manually tweak via hacks) to favor APPS. This is a big NO NO and a slap in the face to desktop users. Hell you can't even change the font size of the Start Menu? What good is that to users on 4K res monitors? Windows magnifier to see everything? Double face slap. Favoring tablets with 8" screens held 5" above the face? Sorry MS. People that use Windows, use power. GTX 980's and i7's and SSD's is what I hear when I think about a PC or Windows enthusiast. Deliver me power and flexibility in my O/S. Don't deny me customization or features because you think tablets are the next gen. Until they squeeze a geforce titan with an i7 into a tablet I'll continue to use a PC for power/tasks.

I already have an Android Phone and a cheap-o android tablet, so why would I switch to WP or Surface? I get wifi around the house, play store works perfectly and syncs everything. All the free games and junk and apps you need. I've had a gmail account for 7+ years. I don't own an xbox console and never will. If I want to play a console I hit up a friends house because I'm not into them anymore, and they either own PS3 or PS4. I'm a PC guy and that's what I need. Working WINDOWS on my computer, Win32 API's not a hybrid wanna be O/S with a MS STORE, that won't even compare to Play Store or iStore. It's just too little too late, unfortunately. I don't know why MS even bothered doing this.

And I agree with you that Nokia would have lived on if they adopted Android O/S, because I believe they would be able to make a solid phone that would be cheaper then getting a Samsung Galaxy, maybe not as 'powerful' but I bet it would be very durable and quick and a lot of people would give it a shot, since majority had nokia phones before androids and iphones were the norm, back in the good old T9 keyboard days.

Not bashing but its the truth its just how it is.
