Will Windows 10 provide backward compatibility for legacy programs?

    Original title: backward compatibility.

I am using some pretty old software on my Windows 7 Pro laptop. Will Windows 10 provide backward compatibility for legacy programs?

How can I find out for certain before apply the upgrade to Windows 10.

I will need to be able to still use these programs and access the data they contain.

Some of these are 16-bit and 32-bit.

Thanks for any information you can provide.
