Windows 10: Microsoft releases .NET 5.0.1 December 2020 Updates

Today, we are releasing the .NET December 2020 Update. These updates contains reliability and other non-security improvements. See the individual release notes for details on updated packages. Also starting today, .NET Core updates will be delivered via Microsoft Update including Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and the Microsoft Update Catalog. See our previous post on about .NET Core updates coming to Microsoft Update for more information about this.

You can download .NET 5.0.1, for Windows, macOS, and Linux, for x86, x64, Arm32, and Arm64.

Microsoft Prepares Office 2007 SP1 For December 11th Release

While Microsoft is working very hard to make a good service pack for Windows Vista, it's not the only thing they're working on. Microsoft is reportedly working hard on Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2007. Due for release on this month's "Patch Tuesday", or December 11th, the service pack was created mainly based on consumer feedback. While Microsoft is mostly very "tight-lipped" about what exactly is going to be in the service pack, there are a couple confirmed features:

Improved support for VSTO v3

Better Object Model documentation for coding

Improved support for .NET v3.5

PowerPoint animated text has been upgraded

Compatibility issues with previous Office file formats have been corrected

Changes have been made to DirectX video overlay

Security

CVE-2020-1045: ASP.NET Core Security Feature Bypass Vulnerability

Microsoft is releasing this security advisory to provide information about a vulnerability in ASP.NET Core. This advisory also provides guidance on what developers can do to update their applications to remove this vulnerability.

A security feature bypass vulnerability exists in the way Microsoft ASP.NET Core parses encoded cookie names.

The ASP.NET Core cookie parser decodes entire cookie strings which could allow a malicious attacker to set a second cookie with the name being percent encoded.

The security update addresses the vulnerability by fixing the way the ASP.NET Core cookie parser handles encoded names.
