Windows 10: Microsoft removes some policies from Windows 10 Pro

Discus and support Microsoft removes some policies from Windows 10 Pro in Windows 10 News to solve the problem; Hi, Sure, I understand that. Being on the Insider Preview program and all that. There are still workarounds possible but not through gpedit any... Discussion in 'Windows 10 News' started by Borg 386, Jul 28, 2016.

Cortana is removed in Education (anniversary update) and the new Pro Education. If that company has a Software Assurance contract the IT guy can just switch editions. IMHO they should have called it Pro Enterprise.

  2. Not trying to be a smart @ss, but, if even half the people that threatened to switch to Linux, actually followed through, things likely would be a lot different. Most don't actually follow through with those threats though. They just keep on using Windows.

    Hi,

Of course and you can even push it further but I'll shut up.
Point is you nor me can buy these versions of Windows which I feel is a shame..... Irony is, we would be paying through our noses to actually get less. Well less crap that is.

There are versions around without Edge (which still does not work as it should anyway), without Media Player and what have you. Basically a desktop version as I and many Win7 adepts would have liked to have but guess what, MS has a different agenda.
They bring commerce to you now straight to what you thought was YOUR desktop.

    Cheers, *Wink

Whose threatens who here? Considering switching to Linux and expressing that thought is a threat in your eyes? Fact is, the reasons to stick with Windows despite it's shortcomings like it's price, it's security risks etc. are getting fewer and fewer, especially because Linux has come a long way when it comes to multimedia and even gaming. Plus I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore. So under these circumstances considering a change over to the Linux side just seems reasonable to me.

The day I see the first ad on my desktop that cannot be switched off will definitely be the day of my departure from the Windows world. I'd definitely not accept a paid product to show me ads. On my hardware, with my electricity that I pay for, in my house, sorry but no way. Period.

  6. Apologies "threat" may have been a poor choice of words. Maybe I should have said "those contemplating" or something. I meant no offense. I think you get my point though. I see lots of "I'm switching to Linux Posts" but those users keep on posting Windows related questions etc. They don't follow through.

    Hi,

Open your eyes, you're already right in the middle of it. Like it or not.
That said, I'm no different from you and balk at it in the same way. I just don't like it but then we are very European in our way of thinking.
I am probably much, much worse than you.....

    Cheers, *Wink

I do believe some free Apps will show adds, if you have that live tile turned on. And search too I think if web results are shown? There were complaints early on about search showing Adds. In Windows 8 anyway.

  9. Looks like we're only a few updates away from "Cloud Windows".
Probably just after W7 is "forcibly" retired by MS in 2020. *Sad

  10. Not really, IMHO. Turn those live tiles Off, no adds. Or pay full price. Or don't use them in the first place. This isn't the first time this has happened. It's been going on long before Windows 10 showed up. Anybody running utorrent will know what I'm talking about. Open it full screen and you'll see adds.

If nobody is using Win10, MS will be forced to listen to User´s wishes.
At the moment seems MS does not care at all about user´s, they are solely focused on Enterprises, as the path to impose their UWP-OS to the World.
We want to have full control over the OS and not the other side round!

From my side, I installed the Upgrade to Win10 just to get the Activation, and will go back to Win 8.1.

If nobody was to use W10 it wouldn't exist. Luckily I'm not "Nobody" and like using it. Just like I'm using some lame W7 (in dual boot) on local account with no internet connection just for some games that wouldn't run on anything else. Also have XP on an ancient laptop. So even if W10 was to disappear I could and would still use it.
What anyone thinks and does is no concern of mine.

That might be true CountMike but this announcement still reeks of baloney.

Everything alright, I did not take it as an offense, just wanted to clarify that I did not threaten anybody *Wink Of course I got your point. But it does not really apply to me as I've already partially switched to Linux. All my web activity including emails are done in a virtual machine (Fedora 24 and Linux Mint 18) plus there is also Linux Mint installed on my HDD. So I'm quite ready to make the next step, it all depends on MS's next steps. And before someone tells me: I'm well aware of the fact that MS gives a sh.. if I abandon Windows. But that's the only thing I can do, voting with my wallet. I definitely don't like the direction in which MS is going with Windows 10. Which is very sad by the way since without the questionable measures discussed in this thread it would have been a fantastic os.

  15. Missed this post some how. I'm running Education on the PC I'm posting this from. VIA my MSDN key, which is a Retail Key not a MAK key. Retail Key being an option suggests to me that it may be available to consumers, at some point. Cortana is still there, the report is it will be removed in the Anniversary Edition. I'll just have to wait and see if she is removed. If she is, I'll be going back to Pro.
