Didn't some people say the same about Windows 8. There's a old saying, The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If enough people complain MS just might listen.

Having my old work laptop die on me (motherboard, not worth replacing) and ordering a P50 with Pro if adds start appearing on my startmenu ect. I think i'm going to take my downgrade rights to 7. Of course 4k with 7 on a 15 inch screen is a whole other can of worms entirely. If they do take out the registry edits I fear in the direction MS is headed.

  5. You only get downgrade rights if that manufacturer offers it on that make and model. It's not an automatic thing just because you order Pro. Just in case you didn't know.

According to the EULA all 10 Pro versions (either OEM or retail) have downgrade rights.

I'm sorry. What about Windows 8 are you talking about? You mean the start menu? That's not really a change of course for them, as it still does exactly what the old start screen did, and the full-screen page is still available with continuum. Frankly, I like the old Windows 8 full-screen menu.

I'm sorry, how do you read that into that text? It says quite clearly "If you acquired a device from a manufacturer or installer", that means an OEM version.

  10. Where are you going to get your install media and product code from? Microsoft isn't going to give it to you. As far as I know, the OEM provides that, and only on select models. You likely have to request it during your purchase. I could very well be wrong, but that's my understanding of how it works.

Actually part of that sentence doesn't really make any logical sense. I am referring to the word installer. When would a person acquire a device from an installer?

    Hi,

When you'd want a machine for a specific purpose such as gaming perhaps ?
No idea what "installer" means in legal mumbo jumbo though.

    Cheers, *Wink

Believe what you want. People complained and MS did make changes to Windows 8. With Windows 10 MS is trying their best to forget Windows 8 ever existed.

  14. Win 10 works well, here, two instalations. Very little in Local Group Policy Editor is anything I'd care to tweak - no reason to.

When I do run into something I want different - which is how I sometimes feel about memory compression "feature", I find a reg entry that will toggle the behavior.

In principle though I'm with the majority: if the behavior CAN toggle, and there is no clear reason to block the toggle, the easier it is to do - say with Gpedit - the better.

No - the clause 7 only refers to oem licences. Retail licences do not have downgrade rights.
