why when scanning with Microsoft Safety Scanner or in cmd sfc/VERIFYONLY the screen in my HP Pavilion Notebook turn black and freezes any tip to fix it?

Microsoft Safety Scanner - Free Virus Scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner


I've run several scans with a couple other programs and they found nothing.
It loaded fine today using firefox.

Apparently I'm the only one having this issue?

 

Microsoft Safety Scanner Freeze up during full scan

For the last few days I have been using the free safety scanner.

My computer is an HP 2.4 ghz w/ i3 chipset running windows 10.

I am running Norton 360, the C and F drives completed successfully w/o turning off Norton.

My computer is subdivided w/ the following drive letters C: Local, D: Recovery, and F: HP_Tools.

The full scan on the C and F drives, found two infected files(same virus) Java-related and fixed the items.

The problem is on the D drive, the full scan runs for roughly 4 hours and freezes. The window looks something like this:

The file name showing at the freeze up is: D:\recovery\windowsRE\winre.win->\windows\wpeprophiles\core.wpf->(utf-16le)

Full Scan

Files Scanned: 2277831

Files Infected: 1 *(from the factory this way, I assume)

Elapsed time: 4:05:12

DOES it still pose a threat from the D drive?

Is it a known freeze point? If so is there a work around?

Should I create a fresh IMO(sp) disk?

What else should I do? I tried running Nortons Power Eraser, it didn't find the infected file.
