If the PC is not set up to be a server, only one instance of the software can be used at a time by that individual. I am looking for a lawyer who will start a class action suit against Microsoft to get them to change their policy. As there are likely several million users with this issue and the licenses sell for about $200, the suit damages will easily reach into the billions of dollars. I don't care about the money, but I do care about being able to run multiple VMs on my laptop so I can do my job more easily. My company won't use VM's due to the cost of Microsoft licenses. I'm not sure

    :)

  2. create a single shortcut to multiple computers

    More details required, i.e.

    • Is it a single file or multiple files? Or whole folders?
    • Same files each time?
    • Same files for each PC?
    • Same share names on each PC?
    • Do you know their NetBIOS names?

  3. Multiple users on multiple workstations with one computer?

Thanks to Dan and Jizzler for the links to thinsoft. Interesting. However, what platform do the clients run on? I looked (quickly) at the website and that information wasnt obvious.

Seems expensive if I have to run XP on the clients plus the thinsoft fees... since doesnt it also run foul or at least in the greyzone of the licensing of any application that you are running on the host? Most are single user or single installation (meaning single instance)... does 21 remote desktop application instances with 21 separate unique users fall foul of the original application license you are trying to host-thinclient?

Windows version+license for a single user connecting to windows guest

    Hi,

I'm currently working on a new home server setup. It consists of various virtualized services running on proxmox. I was wondering why not moving everything onto the server, including my desktop work? Technicalities aside, I want to know what is needed in terms of appropriate windows version and license for a single user (only me, no multiple users) connecting from a thinclient (non-windows via vlc etc.) to a windows guest running on the proxmox host?

So what is the windows version and license needed for this new virtualized windows install. The information that I find is mostly targeting small businesses with bringing up virtual desktop access for multiple users.

    Regards

    Johannes
