Microsoft Storage Spaces data loss after Windows 10 pro x64 update 20H2

    PC configuration:
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 2200G
    MB: Gigabyte AM4 B450
    GPU: Integrated in CPU
    RAM: Kingston DDR4 SDRAM 8GB
    OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
IDE ATA/ATAPI controller: Standard SATA AHCI Controller
Storage: 240GB SSD for Windows and programs drive C
Microsoft Storage Spaces: 2x 240GB SSDs Mirror drive for user data storage drive D
Microsoft Storage Spaces drive provisioning unpartitioned drive space set to 10% of the Storage Spaces capacity.

    Problem:
User Data Loss on Microsoft Storage Spaces Mirror drive after upgrade to Windows 10 x64 20H2:

    Starting position November 5th:
Fully updated and running Windows 10 x64 version 1909 with Microsoft Storage Spaces Data Mirroring of two 240GB SSDs implemented for user data storage. For some time one of those SSDs was failing and marked by Windows for "consider replacement". All user data on Microsoft Storage Spaces drive D were present, usable and up to date.

    Resulting position November 5th:
Windows was updated successfully with optional Windows 10 update 20H2 without any errors, warnings or hiccups. After the update, all available user data from drive D were copied to another PC via LAN and after that it was realized that some user data both on source Microsoft Storage Spaces Mirror drive D and destination drive on another PC were missing missing all user data newer than September 1st.

    Questions:
Is it possible to recover missing user data from Mirror drive D and how to do that?
Can you replicate this? Is it Windows 10 bug?

    :)

  2. Any way to downgrade ver. of MS Storage spaces volume w/o data loss?

    1. Install Windows 1607 & 1709 dual boot system
    2. Connect two free disks
    3. Boot into 1607
    4. Create storage pool, assign two free disks, create two-way mirror volume
    5. Copy data to new volume
    6. Reboot into 1709
    7. Upgrade your Storage Space pool to gain new features as MS suggests
    8. Reboot into 1607
    9. Your Storage Space configuration looks now as in the picture, volume is inaccessible
    10. Notice that doing step 7 was not the smartest idea, data are now accessible only from Windows 1709.

Question: Is it possible to simply revert Storage Spaces metadata back to version 1607? Answer: No. It is necessary to backup data, destroy upgraded pool, create new pool & mirror in Windows 1607, and restore data.

Is it so hard to understand what necros asks for?

Storage Spaces and Reinstalling Windows 10 Pro

I am planning on upgrading the hardware on my home media server (Plex). It runs on Windows 10 Pro (1809). My Storage Spaces disks are connected to my system via a dedicated RAID card, with the disks just configured as JBOD. It is a 16 disk pool comprising
36TB of raw storage, configured within Storage Spaces to have parity, so I have about 21TB of usable space. I would like to know what steps I need to take in order to ensure that, once I have upgraded the hardware and reinstalled Windows 10 Pro to my OS disk,
I can reconnect the RAID controller and have the Storage Spaces be recognized and accessible again. I cannot risk losing this data, and given the amount of it, making a copy beforehand is also not a possibility.

Microsoft Storage Spaces data loss after Windows 10 pro x64 update 20H2

Any way to downgrade ver. of MS Storage spaces volume w/o data loss?

WOW this sound even worse than a straight up RAID 0, This confirms I'll never use this feature if I ever need to have a RAID 0 Volume I'll use IRST

I still think if the OP has a full back up of the volume he should be able to restore it to a newer version of SS or a IRST Volume or a single drive
