Microsoft Store and all Apps for Win 10 not opening after August 2018 updates

Microsoft Store and all Apps (Calculator, Skype, Photos, etc) will not open after the August 2018 updates were installed for Windows 10.

I went through various recommendations on other threads but they did not work, and I narrowed it down to the folder permissions for WindowsApps folder. But I can't change permissions. Can someone help me?

List of things I originally tried:

    1) Troubleshooter showed that User Account Control (UAC) was not enabled, so it enabled it. Re-running Troubleshooter did not show anymore problems. Apps still won't launch.

    2) Ran wsreset.exe but the result is "ms-windows-storeMicrosoft Store and all Apps for Win 10 not opening after August 2018 updates :purgeCashes The app didn't start." Apps still won't launch.

    3) Tried to reset Microsoft Store cache in app settings but all it does is show a checkmark. Apps still won't launch.

    4) Tried to re-register Microsoft Store with powershell, using the command from other threads, but it gives an error that the file path cannot be found, or access denied.

    5) So then I looked up the WindowsApps folder but I do not have access permissions. I tried changing the ownership to NT Service\TrustedInstaller, I tried this twice, once with the box checkmarked "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", and again without this checked. After both times, I still cannot open the folder and I don't have access permissions. I tried restarting the PC, and repeating this several times and still no access. Owner field shows "Unable to display current owner."

I followed the steps from here:

    https://www.maketecheasier.com/access-windowsapps-folder-windows-10/

What else can I do to get access to the WindowsApps folder?

    :)

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. *Smile

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
