Windows 10: Microsoft Store will soon let you install apps directly from top featured sections

Microsoft has announced a change for its app marketplace. You will soon be able to install apps directly from Microsoft Store's top featured sections.

Currently, you have to open the Microsoft Store, click on app's banner on the featured pages, and then click on the install button. The announcement from Microsoft says that the option to install apps directly from the top featured sections will allow users to download their favorite products in fewer steps. It shaves a step, you open the Store app, and just hit install directly on an app's banner if it is on the front page (or a genre's main page). What if someone doesn't own a paid app or game? Does it function as a one-click buy button, probably not?

If an app was someone's favorite, they would already have it installed on their PC, right? Or a user would just get it from the library page, or use the Store's search feature. Nobody is going to go look for a banner to click on. What Microsoft is trying so hard to explain is that it wants to promote apps with an install button. It's not surprising, a month ago the company announced a personalized home page for the Microsoft Store, along with Copilot integration. It might help with app discovery, which could be important for developers or advertisers, but users may not like these changes.

The new Microsoft Store experience is available for Windows 11 Insiders who have opted in to the Canary and Dev Channels running version 22406.xxxx.x of the Microsoft Store and higher. On a side note, Windows PowerShell 2.0 is being deprecated, and will be removed in an upcoming update.

I know what you're thinking, who installs apps directly from a banner? Oh, wait! Microsoft recently announced that Windows will soon let users search for and install apps directly from the Start Menu. Do people actually do this? This is probably not safe, and you could accidentally download an app that you didn't want.

Apps won't install in Microsoft Store, stuck in the ready to install section

Hello CwayitaSilinga, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

I understand you are having trouble installing some apps from the Microsoft Store;

Initially I suggest you press Windows key + I and access Applications;

Click on Apps and Features;

If you find Whatsapp Desktop and Taskade in the list, it means that they are already installed;

Look for them in the Windows search bar to try to open them;

If apps are not displayed, try the following;

Run the wsreset command;

Click on the Windows search bar, type: wsreset and press Enter;

Wait for the process to complete;

Run the Windows Store troubleshooter;

Press Windows key + I and access System;

Click Troubleshooting

Click Other Troubleshooters;

In Windows Store Apps click Run on the right;

Check if the problem is fixed;

How do I fix Windows 10 apps from launching the store instead of the actual app?

This is a sign of app metadata getting damaged.

Try resetting the app (from the App and Features part of Settings). If that failed, uninstall and reinstall the app.

This solution is for Windows v1709 and earlier only. 1803 is not stable enough at this time.

To reset an app:

1. Press Win+X to open the quick access menu.
   
2. Select "Apps and Feature" (which should be on the top)
   
3. Find the affected app and select it.
   
4. Click on the "Advanced options" hyperlink that just appeared.
   
5. In the next screen, press the "Reset" button.
   

To wipe-and-reload an app:

1. Uninstall it.
   
   1. Right-click on its tile and select "Uninstall". proceed to the next step whether you find an uninstall option or not.
      
   2. Press Win+X to open the quick access menu.
      
   3. Select "Apps and Feature" (which should be on the top)
      
   4. Find the affected app and select it. If you can't find it, skip the next step.
      
   5. Click on the "Uninstall" button.
      
2. Open Microsoft Store
   
3. If an update for Microsoft Store is available, install it.
   
4. Navigate to the page corresponding to your app. Do this using the search or via the library. Please don't use any other method.
   
5. If Microsoft Store thinks the app is still installed, click on "Uninstall" button.
   
6. Have every user account on you computer repeat the steps above.
   
7. Go back to Microsoft Store and install it.
