  1. Microsoft Surface 1st gen - scaling of display area while connected to external display

I would like to use my Microsoft Surface while connected to an external display Samsung LED TV via HDMI. When connected the device over scales the image, meaning the edges of my desktop are outside of the TV boundary, so that the windows button is not visible. I had similar issues with other laptops, but those had a graphics control center that allowed to scale down the sides of the display surface to match the tv. Is there a way to do that on Microsoft Surface? I am unable to use the Intel Graphics Center for the Intel HD graphics 4000 due Microsoft limiting that. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Things I've tried:

    1. Updating Graphics Driver - didn't work

    2. Changing Resolution I knew it wouldn't work but tried anyway - didn't work

    3. Trying to install Intel Graphics Center - didn't work

    4. Checked if Samsung allows to control display surface - It doesn't.

    :)

  2. Surface Pro 3 external display problem

    Hello,

I have following problem which appeared after anniversary update.

I have Surface Pro 3 docked and connected to external display. External is set as main display with 100 % scaling and Surfaces own as secondary with 150 % scaling. Problem is that desktop icons are not on external but stays on Surfaces own display and just
get scaled to 100 €. Taskbar works correctly and shows only on external. Displays are configured as extended. Also when Surface is released from dock icons on its display scales back to 150 % as they should.

    Thanks,

  3. How do I globally disable display auto-scaling?

    Hi,

In reply to your query with disabling automatic scaling while connecting an external interface.

The scaling is adjusted with the display resolution in dots per inch (DPI) with device you connecting with your PC and its by design.

However you can set a custom scaling level.

To set a custom scaling level :

    1. Type "dpiscaling" in the search area on the taskbar and select dpiscaling.

    2. Change the scaling settings in the display window.

    3. In the display window, you can click on set a custom scaling level option and check if it helps.

Also you can provide us your valuable suggestion in our feedback app.

    Follow the steps :

    1.Type Feedback in search bar.

    2. Select/double click the Feedback app from the listed option in search.

    3. Follow online instruction.

Keep us informed with the status of the issue.

    External monitor display settings

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing issues with the display scaling on your external displays. We will certainly look into this for you.

As you are using Vizio TV, you may have to try using custom resolution settings if the in-built settings do not provide the required settings.

For better clarity, please let us know:

    • What is the version of Windows 10 that is currently installed on your computer? You can click on Search and type
      winver.
    • Are you aware of any recent changes to the system, such as updates, after which you are facing this issue?
    • What is the make and model of your computer?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to check the steps mentioned in the Workaround section in

Windows scaling issues for high-DPI devices

I would also suggest you to check the Display drivers. Please refer
