Windows 10: [Microsoft, take note] Start Menu Error, (Different Case)

First of all, no, this technically isnt a solution thread.

Recently (2 days ago, precisely) I encountered a problem, my Start Menu suddenly stopped working for no reason. Clicked hundreds of times, nothing came out.

I tried to google and found quite a number of people same error as mine, but they encountered 'packaged' problems, where Cortana, Start Menu and Taskbar malfunctioned. While on my part, only Start Menu stopped working.

I tried to do as the solutions given.
NONE WORKS. Literally none:

1st Solution.
Re-register package via PowerShell.

2nd Solution.
Application Identity service restart

3rd Solution
TileDataLayer (new user) replacement

4th Solution
MsConfig reboot

Trust me, I even went to the 10th page of google. None works.
Lastly I tried to system restore point.

Recent (closest) points doesnt work out. Then I started to re-check with Event Log.
Restored second time, for the ONE WEEK earlier, with event log saying DirectX installation.
After rebooting, it dark. So dark. Joke aside, only cursor and black background.

Online solution said it was caused by multiple-screen problem, I call that bullsit.

I was terrified at first, but then LUCKILY CTRL+ALT+DELETE works, hence I started to literally living via command prompt. Had to start services myself, programs all via cmd. But, explorer.exe cant be started, for God knows why.

Problem Solved when I tried to reinstall DirectX again.

Today, (Feb 10th).
Start Menu stopped working again. I was devastated and panicked. But then I started to dig into Event Log.

Hence, I simply replace TileDataLayer EDB files.
It becomes corrupted after I tried to create a shortcut manually.

Take note Microsoft. This seems like a minor bug, but well, a flea can cause a plague.

How do I add a program to "All Apps" in the start menu after I have once removed it?

I had a similar but different question -- I just wanted a stand-alone .exe file to show up in that list. In my case, Putty.exe, a simple terminal program.

With some hints from
howtogeek.com, I think I figured out one simple way.

To add this as a "this user only" app, it seems you could add it to

c:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

NOTE: the AppData folder is hidden. And "Start Menus" has a space. Plus, of course, you'll have to put in your username as it is encoded

In my case, I added a folder named Putty, then created a shortcut to Putty.exe and moved it into that folder.

Now it shows up under "All Apps".

Another way that would make it accessible to all users would be to add it to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.

NOTE: This requires admin access. Also, note that C:\ProgramData is a hidden directory.

Windows 10 AE, Microsoft Security Client Error code: 0x80070426

Radney, you have just wasted 10 minutes of my time.

That is how long it took me to realise that the thread you referred me to is a different error on a different operating system and describes steps that are impossible to take in my case.

The only similarity is the error number itself.

In my case it is the Microsoft Security Client that is flagging the error on 64-bit W10

The thread you refer to is describing a Windows Activation Error on Vista over 7 years ago.

This is a completely different error.

I looked at the suggested solution anyway, which is to start a "Software Licencing" service that existed on Vista but does not seem to exist on W10.

It is depressing to see the guys that we hope know what they are talking about behaving so cluelessly and it is irritating to have my time wasted like this.
