  1. Microsoft Task View/Timeline Cards flicker for 1-2 seconds on the desktop before...

    Hello everyone!

I am brand new here and, unfortunately, not very good with computers. I've looked everywhere I know for a solution. This is my last stop before returning my laptop. Hopefully, one of you masters can help.

I just received my new laptop a few days ago. It has been working great until yesterday. Yesterday, a problem first appeared with Microsoft Task View/Timeline. When I go to the task bar to click the "Task View" icon, the Task View/Timeline Cards flash for 1- 2 seconds on the desktop before visually stabilizing on the screen. The application seems to work fine but the flashing is quite annoying, distracting and maybe bad for my eyes. I like this Task View/Timeline feature and would like to use it ...but not if it looks like this. I'm also concerned this is an indicator of more problems to come later.

The problem went away for a minute when I went into System Configuration > Services and unchecked the boxes for "Windows Error Reporting" and "Problems Report and Solutions." Apparently this was the fix for a screen flashing problem many Windows users experienced in 2015. This fixed the problem for 1 - 2 minutes. Then the flashing returned.

Here are the other things I have tried:

    1. Uninstall the Display Adapter - IntelR UHD Graphics

    2. sfc scan with assistance from MS Customer Support

    3. Reset My PC When asked, I opted to "Keep My Files"

    4. Uninstall the Display Adapter again

    5. Uninstall bloatware

    6. MS Customer Support remotely look at my laptop. He could not find anything wrong.

    7. Uncheck those 2 boxes in System Configuration > Services

    A. Should I do the Samsung Recovery Factory Reset? Is that different from "Reset My PC"?

    B. Could this be related to one of the drivers? Before I Reset My PC, I tried to connect new laptop to 2 older monitors unsuccessfully. If it might be related to drivers, how do I find these hidden drivers and display adapters after I Reset My PC?

I have searched the web, reddit, Youtube and now I am here. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you so much.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 task view assign applications

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

As per the description, I understand that you are facing difficulty in assigning the applications to a specific virtual desktop. Let me help you in clearing your doubts.

The virtual desktops feature in Windows 10 is called “Task View” and is located on the Taskbar.

I suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Click Task view. When you open the Task View interface for the first time, or you only have one desktop, the “Add a desktop” button is available.

Step 2: Click it to add virtual desktop.

Step 3: Open the apps that you want to use on that desktop.

Step 4: Click Task view again to switch between desktops.

Hope the information helps. Please keep us posted on Windows related query and we will be happy to assist you further.

Can't enter Task View from virtual "Desktop 1" on Windows 10

I have been enjoying Task View and multiple virtual desktops for some time now, but suddenly Task View has stopped working properly on my Desktop 1 virtual desktop. Neither the Taskbar button nor the keyboard shortcut (Win + Tab) work for activating Task
View. However, I can Win + Arrow Key to switch to other virtual desktops. From any of the other virtual desktops, everything works normally. Furthermore, once I enter Task View from another virtual desktop, I can Win + Arrow Key to switch back to Desktop 1
while remaining in Task View, which then shows open application windows from Desktop 1. However, once I exit Task View, the problem resumes and I can't re-enter Task View without again first switching to another virtual desktop. After I enter Task View from
another virtual desktop, I can "delete" virtual Desktop 1 by clicking the "x," but then the next desktop in the list (i.e. 2) becomes the new "Desktop 1" and acquires the same problem as before where I can't enter Task View from Desktop 1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

edit: Alt + Tab works normally on all virtual desktops.

Desktop items open Libreoffice; windows bugged and flickering

My mother's PC had the most bizarre bug I've ever seen this morning.

PC specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit
Version: 1903 when problem occurred (1909 now)

    What happened:
    • all desktop items, including folders, opened in Libreoffice Writer; once open it displayed a blank document then began flickering as if it had bugged while scrolling
    • opened Task Manager from the task bar, selecting the second tab opened the final tab, which began flickering like Libreoffice
    • problems stopped after a restart, then occurred again after another restart; then stopped after the PC ran for a short time
    • no error popups or BSODs
    • she said Candycrush reported an error earlier but it didn't occur when I looked at it; she said it mentioned "something about the desktop"

    Steps I've taken:
    • did a quick virus scan then reboot scan with Windows Defender; no problems found
    • sfc /scannow; no problems found
    • installed update KB4537572 and upgraded system to 1909; updates appear to have been successful, no other updates available

At the moment the problem has disappeared, but since it reoccurred previously I'm not sure it hasn't been fixed.

I'm out of ideas. What else can I check and what other tests can I run? Based on the given information could anyone suggest what the problem might be?
