You are just splitting hairs semantically. There is no contradiction albeit perhaps some redundancy i.e. It has to exist to be functional.

I ran the trouble shooter in a vm, but could not activate it as it was not a similar device I was trying to activate than the one with a digital licence - it certainly looks functional. I am pretty sure it is functional, or else MS would not be asking Insiders to test it.

I think there were some glitches in 14372 as I now see the digital licence is linked message in 14376.

 

Ok, I just found the two statements confusing that's all.. One implied it worked but the other seemed to imply it didn't work? That's how it seemed to me when I read them. Carry on with your testing. It will be a while before I get my insider build installed and can catch up with everybody else.

 

Well here is something - I had a laptop with oem windows 8.0 licence but the mobo fried, and key worked to activate VM, and I thought why not try and use that key (I managed to extract it from a macrium reflect image) and it worked. .

This is quite legal as MS made a "faux pas" on Windows 8.0 permitting transfer of oem licences but later reversed this from 8.1 onwards.

My VM now says "activated with a digital licence linked to your MS account". So I am wondering if I can now transfer that to a new VM....

I can categorically state that I was able to transfer my digital licence to a second VM using the troubleshooting mechanism. Was dead easy - I just clicked I have new hardware - it listed old VM, clicked check box, and it just worked.

Really impressed with how easy it was.
