Microsoft Update apparently does not want me to customize my computer!

Not real happy right now. MS decide that today was MY DAY for the Anniversary update. The update went well and took about 38 minutes. Machine reboots and bingo ALL my customizations and settings have reverted back to what MS thinks they should be. Granted I can go back in and spend hours redoing it all again but why? Just so the next update can change it all back to what MS wants. Anyone have any idea as to how to prevent MS updates from wiping out hours and hours of work?

On a totally good subject, I want to thank Brink and the entire tenforum for all the hard work they put into this site. I know this site has saved me hours and hours of trial and error in the process of customizing my computer. Thanks to all!

    Ron

  2. Windows 10 Taskbar Won't Auto-hide

    1. Why does the Anniversary Update not just update according to the usual update schedule?

    2. The Anniversary Update has several features that are of no use to me including touch screen, etc and including additional advertising and spyware from Microsoft

    3. Apparently early versions of Anniversary Update had a "Freeze" problem

    4. Why does Settings | Updates & Security never show me anything when I click Windows Update Settings

    5. Why does Settings | Updates & Security | Updates just go away when I click on it afterI search fo updates (I type Update in the search box)

    6. God, I'm sick of Microsoft screwing with me. To fix their screw-ups I have to agree to a bunch of crap I don't want

    7. Settings Windows Update does not work - I cannot find out how my Update settings are set

Do you understand, I use my computer for business (Windows 10 Pro)? What am I supposed to do, switch to Linux (Apple is worse). Please, for Gods sake take care of your business customers Microsoft. I don't want touch screen. I don't want social media on
my office computer, I just want to get my work done without the F**!&ing task bar hiding information I need

  3. how to stop windows from constantly changing my settings

You missed the point - of course people want the updates - but they change personal settings

Microsoft controls my computer. Constantly nagging me to organise my work the way they tell me to - and now deciding to change personal settings - regardless of what I - the customer - the person who BOUGHT the system - wants. Microsoft has a shocking disregard
    for its customers.

Microsoft Update apparently does not want me to customize my computer!

Well... AU is a major update (like a new install),,, certain settings will be lost.. CU's are less invasive - but always have a backup ready... this isn't the rock-solid Win 7 - it's a rolling release... times they are a changing.

I kind of figured it was an almost complete install because of the time and changes. Backups are not a problem as I am a little OCD about them. You are 100% right about 10 not being 7. Still got and will keep 7 installed because 10 is way too buggy for me to trust it!
    Appreciate the input Superfly.

Agreed, the AU is Version 1607 [July 2016] and the previous was Version 1511 [November 2015]. The Build numbers are updates to the Version.

Way too many bugs! Going to restore my hard drive, download the 1607 iso and try it all again.
